My beloved Dopers, I need your advice! And this is as Mundane as it gets! The country’s going to Hell, we’re all being stalked by COVID, and VOW has a stupid problem. I started an online blog years ago. Through the ages, I wrote all kinds of blather, but I also memorialized family stories that I especially want to pass down to my kids and COTUs. I haven’t blogged in a while, but I had every intention (stop laughing!) to use this quarantine time to start writing in it again. I checked on it yesterday, and the site wants me to re-register. Although it’s a free site, it wants a credit card number. If that isn’t eyebrow-raising enough, I discovered the site is now _Russian owned_. The Terms of Service are based on Russian law. Help me, People! What do I do? I don’t have my entries copied elsewhere. But I’d really like to at least get what is already posted there, maybe move someplace else. The site is LiveJournal. ~VOW ---

Just type ‘Wayback Machine’ into the Google search bar. It’s a site that is glitchy as heck, but endeavor to persevere and keep clicking you’ll get to your LJ. I sent an email to Dropzone, I think he LJs. I’ll let you know what he says. ---

Odd. I’ve been a LiveJournal blogger since circa 2014 and never got hit with a requirement to give them my credit card. It’s still free unless you opted for the expanded (paid) services. Password, though: Like lots of sites they got hit by one of those breaches and pushed people to change their passwords. Inactive accounts may have been locked or disabled or require two-step confirmation to prove your’e really you or something. There’s a utility to let you migrate your entire account (all posts from way back @ beginning of time) over to DreamWidth, which is very LJ-ish and which lets you echo your blog posts to LJ, so a lot of people did that when LJ was acquired by the Russians. ---

Thank you everybody for your help! I feel so stupid sometimes! I can access, and in using my Chromebook, I’m trying to copy and paste to give me my own offline copy. Problem is, Chromebook ONLY lets me save it to “My Drive.” Which isn’t on my computer. :deadpan: And the bank won’t let me buy a washing machine even though I have more than enough money in my account. Because it is over a certain amount for the purchase of a single item, it’s waving one of those automatic “possible fraud” flags. Mr VOW is on the phone, but it’s a twenty-minute wait on hold. :banging head on hard objects: And one of the cats crapped in the shower of the downstairs bathroom (“our” bathroom), then peed all over the floor in front of the bathroom sink. I wanna go back to bed. ~VOW ---

But if it’s not that easy to find, just cut and paste into an email to yourself. ---
