Getting home after dealing with idiots that can’t drive in the mountains. I go the speed limit or whatever is prudent, but these morons will try to pass six cars in a row on corners or blind hills because… something. 5 days ago some moron did it and it required 3 flight for life helicopters and 6 ambulances. These fools turn what should be a casual drive into a life or death match. Not particular mundane I guess, but it’s always good to get home. ---

I have five cats. All are strays that decided I am a suitable host. At some point every day I see Graycee, Leo. Beasley, Mister Knightley and Hazel. I love my family. ---

Yes, interacting with a cat is constant little morsels of satisfaction. All those moments throughout the day when the thought pops into my head “I wonder what the cat is doing”, and I go and check, and find him, probably sleeping, comfortable and soft and beautiful. Even better when he decides to come and check on me, give me a head bump, maybe even spend an hour in my lap, all this makes the happiness bubbles in my head go pop pop pop like a fizzy drink. ---

Having a house plant that not only lives, but seemingly thrives under my care. I’ve always had a brown thumb and having that bit of living green in the house cheers the place up immensely ---

Playing peek a boo and/or making funny faces at kids on the bus. (Covid has taken this from me as it’s darn near impossible to make a good funny face while wearing a mask). Making and giving away balloon animals. When somebody keeps peppering me with questions and I can finally say ‘You know as much as I do.’ and they stop Successfully haggling at a flea market. ---

Related, I get some satisfaction/schadenfreude when I see the moron that was super speeding and recklessly passing pulled over down the road. In my head I give a Nelson “HAHA” knowing I am now going to be far further down the road than them. ---

Sunday night is usually when I do basic housekeeping (spray down the counters, run the dishwasher, empty the trash cans, et al). As part of that, I’ll launder and change my bedsheets and bath towels. I sometimes work up a little sweat when I do it, and I don’t always shower on weekends (unless I’m going out), so I finish off Sunday night cleaning with a good shower. Getting out of that shower, drying off with a nice, warm fluffy towel, and then getting into a freshly cleaned bed (that’s been made for the only time all week) is such an enjoyable way to wind down my weekend before I go to sleep. Also, pets. They are such a source of daily joy. ---

LOSING to my Wife when playing chess. I taught her how to play. But she only wins about 1 in 5. We have played a lot of games. About 4 a week. We have an agreement that no one will throw a game. We are gentle players in that we will say “You missed something” When we know the other did see it, but forgot while planning other moves. We give each other mulligans once in a while. It’s been very interesting, and after 26 years of marriage has given us both more insight into how the other thinks. It’s pretty cool really. ---

Watching other people play with my son. It’s nice to have a break, but there’s something deeper there, the visible evidence that he is loved by so many, which makes me happy. ---

These are great. I could add that reading a thread like this give me a buzz of satisfaction. Sitting down with my toast and coffee to browse The Dope first thing in the morning. It makes me very happy when my old dog Sweetie eats all the food in both her bowls by the end of the day. In one bowl goes a whole can of sardines (packed in water, no added salt), and she usually scarfs these down immediately. Occasionally it’s a small can of salmon. In the other bowl goes a scrambled egg, shreds of rotisserie chicken, a couple of slices of roast beef from the deli, a small container of commercial dog food (Weruva or Natural Balance) for those doggie nutriments that you get in commercial dog food, topped with a few ounces of beef bone broth. Bragg’s nutritional yeast sprinkled over all. It has taken me months to put together the combo of stuff that she likes. She checks it out first thing in the morning, but she prefers to eat late in the day, even as late as 9 pm. She also gets Carprovet twice a day (sort of doggie ibuprofen), tramadol and gabapentin at bedtime. CBD chews for joint mobility and anxiety as needed. I’ve got yoga mats and runners all over the house to help her keep her footing. She has a hard time getting up and sometimes I have to help her, but she _still can_ get up. Thank goodness. I don’t mind taking care of her. I live to serve. ---
