Do you really think Trump wouldn’t make the same argument, regardless of how hypocritical it is? He’s already demanding civility now.
A right prissy little bitch, ain’t he.
Trump:
By the way, I hate some of these people. But I’d never kill them. I hate them. No. These people, honestly, I’ll be honest. I would never kill them. I would never do that. Well … (waggles his hand) … No, I wouldn’t. I would never kill them. But I do hate them. And some of them are such lying, disgusting people. It’s true. It’s true.
Since the election Trump has tweeted attacks on the “fake news” 225 times. Add to that another 61 attacks on “low ratings” CNN, 53 attacks on the “biased” NBC news, 51 attacks on the “failing New York Times,” and 33 slams at the “fictional” Washington Post. That’s not counting attacks on individual journalists.
In an interview with Mike Huckabee last week, Donald Trump called the coverage of his talks with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un “almost treasonous.” At his rallies, he has not just caged journalists, but encouraged his followers to demonstrate their hatred. The attacks on journalists began while Trump was campaigning, and they have not slowed down. Reporters have been subject to not just Trump’s daily verbal attacks, but physical assault and frequent death threats.
Look motherfucker, one thing at a time. I was in the mood for some Rubio bashing (the gormless, dumbo-eared little snot gobbler) and how he got spanked by Trump and liked it.
It’s astonishing just how plausible it seems that we might feel the need to ask this president whether he approves of murdering people who disagree with him.
Subtle. ![]()
Even more astonishing, it would be just peachy with his “base”. Fucking goose stepping Nazi bastards.
Add to these facts the statement Trump made today:
…Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their jobs…To the families of the victims, there are no words to express our sorrow for your loss … Horrible, horrible event, a horrible thing happened. In your suffering we pledge our eternal support. The suffering is so great — I have seen some of the people — so great. “My government will not rest until we have done everything in our power to reduce violent crime and to protect innocent life. We will not ever leave your side, so our warmest, best wishes and regrets…
He’s clearly reading from the teleprompter (you can see where he makes it his own, so to speak, in the “—I have seen some of the people—” bit.)
This statement will not thrill Trump’s fans. They would have been hoping for some snark about ‘well, if you want to be safe, don’t be in the fake news business because that’s bound to make people angry’ and perhaps some repetitions of the killer’s name with an emphasis on the “RAMOS.”
But I believe some person or persons in the White House put the fear of…well, not God, of course, but perhaps the fear of “actual consequences” into Trump.
Who would be surprised to learn that a statement by the killer was found, perhaps at his home or in his vehicle, in which he quoted some of Trump’s anti-press remarks and said that his acts today were Just and Good and Right because Trump said so?
Of course any such statement would have been quickly suppressed. Any evidence that the guy went off his head six years after his court case—and explicitly mentioned Trump as the inspiration/justification for his actions—would be politically explosive.
So today’s statement, I suspect, was forced on Trump----because some people around him are aware that Trump’s own gut reaction (of callousness toward the dead and blaming them for their ‘bad career choice’ or such) could have led to disaster.
NRA spokesmodel advocating “curb-stomping” reporters.
Jeez, Dana. You’re the spokesperson for the NRA. You’re supposed to advocate shooting them and pointing out which gun is best suited for that purpose.
Dana is making the deep philosophical point that if somebody gets curb-stomped, nobody suggests banning curbs.
I had wondered if victim Robert Hiaasen was any relation to best-selling author Carl Hiaasen.
He was.
They were brothers.

Someone needs to give THAT one exactly the same treatment, as is being advocated. Fair is fair.
I would prefer to lock the bastard up for incitement. And THEN deport him.
Too bad it probably wouldn’t stick.
I don’t think this is fairly laid at Trump’s door.
But one of the things that most infuriates me about Trump is his lack of accountability and consistency. “Fake news!” he repeats incessantly. If he were a paragon of accuracy I might get behind this, because the news definitely adopts a preferred narrative and then shoehorns reporting to fit it. I can imagine someone who prizes accuracy and complete reporting getting irritated at the slanted reporting. But good grief! Trump himself lies, exaggerates, insults, aggrandizes, deceives, and omits more relevant material in a day than CNN could do in a month.
The only slant I notice in the news Trump is upset about is about him. And if you agree that Trump does those bad things, then the news isn’t slanted when it reports about Trump doing those bad things.
One thing about those who try to lie and deceive: you have to watch out for the little lies as much as the big lies. One of Trump’s strategies is to lie so big that you think that there must be some truth involved.
It’s not that Trump is hypocritical. It’s that Trump doesn’t care about accuracy at all. He just cares about convincing people that the stories about him are false. And he’s willing to undermine the institution of the press to achieve that goal.
Fair enough.
Never expected to see a comment like this from Bricker.
I agree that unless questioning reveals the killer was triggered by something Milo Y or Trump said, this spree cannot be laid at their feet. I think there is an outside chance that’s the case, but the timing is probably just coincidental. The guy had issues.
This is similar to the case of the shooting of Gabby Giffords. Showing her picture in the bulls-eye of a target, did not lead to her being shot.
But that kind of thing certainly does not lead to peaceful resolution of differences and is not helpful in any way.
This is far from the first harsh critique I have leveled against Trump – I’m not a fan of his. I’m willing to get him credit when he does something of which I approve, but on balance I feel he’s a negative as opposed to a positive.
and the press LETS him get away with it.
