On Sunday, just like with every trip out to the Farallon Islands, I let our passengers know that it was extremely unlikely that we would see a great white shark - they don’t need to come up for air, and you’ll only see them if they attack something or if they come up to examine something - very rare occurrences. Three hours later, we’re right off Southeast Farallon Island watching a 10 foot great white tear the hell out of sea lion or seal (I didn’t get a clear view of what was getting attacked.) Plus, as a bonus, another 6-8 foot shark came along to investigate the ruckus. It was promptly scared off by the first shark. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to be wrong. I should put a damper on clients’ expectations more often. ---
