# music clubs (bmg, etc)

i heard that they dont pay royalites or pay less royalties to keep their prices low  
how do they get away with that?  
can someone explain this whole deal?

I assume that they are able to buy in extreme bulk to keep their prices low.

When I was a member I found it to be a real pain in the ass. I was sent CDs that i didn’t order and they didn’t carry some of my favorite bands music (Pearl Jam) and they did not have Cds as soon as they came out in stores.

Ahhh. I feel better now.

They manufacture the CDs themselves,  
paying the copyright holders only for  
licensing.

I’ve had good luck with BMG but it is sometimes hard to find the most recent albums on their lists. Sometimes they don’t get them until they’ve been out a couple months. I can’t offer any information on how they get the rights to what they sell or their pricing structure. My guess is that they will get some albums right away because they aren’t the “new, hot thing” and will get the ones that ARE the “new, hot thing” after they’ve been on the market a while. Just a guess.

I got the 12 cd’s for a penny deal through Columbia House about 2 years ago. I haven’t bought another cd since. Is that a bad thing?
