Fifth place, not too shabby, much better than I anticipated.
I’m confused about the scoring however – if I had guessed all #1 answers I would’ve received 19 extra points, yet I missed first place by 54 points. What am I missing here?

Still in the Top 10! Woot!
It’s quite surprising to me how many people think of the Who as a British Invasion band–they were really a little bit later than that.
yeah
No, I believe that the British Invasion lasted until 1967, when Hendrix came along.
Cite I know it’s wikipedia, but I’ve seen other references to that approximate timeframe.
If you had guessed all number ones - you would have had 53.41 more points. Each match is equal to the matches x 2.08 in this case (because there are only 48 responses.) Normally (with 50 entrants) they are worth 2 points each.
For example, you answered Roxanne on #7, and it got you 0 points because you had no matches. The number one answer, Michelle, was worth 9 matches x 2.08 points = 18.72 points.
Is that more clear? And extremely “not too shabby!”
Ah, back down at the bottom where I’m comfortable.
Ah, makes sense now (I think…sounds very complicated!)
The Who released their first single in 1964 and their first LP in '65; I’d call that right in the middle of the British Invasion.
It’s certainly closer than whoever said Motley Crue was a grunge band!!
I’m annoyed with myself about only one answer; I really should have thought of the Supremes.
But I wasn’t in the bottom 10. And I got three whole most popular choices.
43rd? Sigh.
The Who’s 1964 single doesn’t count because (a) It wasn’t credited to the Who–they were still the High Numbers then, and (b) it wasn’t released in America, which was the whole point of the British Invasion.
To my way of thinking, the BI only lasted through 1964. After that, British artists having hits in the American charts was no longer a novelty. YMMV; maybe I’m being too narrow.
Y’know, I think I was thinking of Quadrophenia, which was set at the time of the British Invasion. (roughly)
You’re right; their peak was later than the peak of the B.I.
I didn’t think anyone else would say Gerry & the Pacemakers. ("So ferry cross the Mersey, and always take me back, the place I love… ")
Thanks, Freudian and Dolores!
Hey, I’ll take 15th place. Thanks, Dolores and Freudian Slit!
Geez - I have no clue why I thought there was space left.
Um…never mind.
Oh, jeez, I’m sorry! I forgot to notify TPTB to mark it closed.
Here’s the next one though: New Feud.
I’m surprised that Jagger was such a conch. I thought Keef at the very least would be a close second.
I’m #41! Go Me!!!
