Music for crusin' in a helicopter gunship?

Cruuusin…on a Sunday afternoon…

Umbriel has a good idea with show tunes, but I’d go farther back and change the mood a little: Fascinatin’ Rhythm, Cheek to Cheek, or maybe Puttin’ on the Ritz.

For a more hard-driving sound, I’d go for bluegrass railway tunes, like Orange Blossom Special. (I like the Vassar Clements version on Will the Circle be Unbroken with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.)

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” - Blue Oyster Cult
“Ace of Spades” - Motorhead
“Paint it Black” - The Rolling Stones (at least I’ve heard that’s a good one :D)

I’ll suggest “simpathy for the devil” - Rolling Stones.

Just like the scene in King’s “Dreamcatcher”.

Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture. (You could supply your own cannon fire.)

Ludvig van’s Fifth.

Let It Bleed.

Tonight’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”

Bizarre timing to open this thread.

Mars, Bringer of War is a song for every occasion.

Carmena Burana Carl Orff
Vote With a Bullet Corrosion of Conformity
American Woman Butthole Surfers
If I Had a Rocket Launcher Bruce Cockburn
Sabotage Beasty Boys
The Battle Hans Zimmer/Lisa Gerrard

Haha. I thought the same thing. I actually thought this thread was in response to the Conan bit. Does anyone know what song that was Conan played for the helicopter footage?

FWIW, Flight of the Valkyries is my pick.

Also, for those who did not see Conan last night, he recently visited the middle east on a USO tour, and showed footage from his trip. “Flight of the Valkyries” was the background music during his helicopter flight. He interrupted the bit, and said the FOTV was the usual helicopter music, and restarted the footage with some cheesy 60s(?) tune.

The Lexx theme song.
The Fight song(Marylin Manson)

Actually used for this purpose in Vietnam: “Bad Moon Rising” – Creedence Clearwater Revival. It’s what my dad’s Special Forces team always played while they were putting on their war paint before going out – he was a Green Beret in Vietnam, and they usually rode in in Hueys, so I suppose it counts. Hope you got your things together, hope you are quite prepared to die…
My choice: “Hell’s Bells” – AC/DC. Appropriate lyrics, and the music (especially the opening guitar bit) would go nicely with helicopter flight.
