Music from India

Well, I haven’t heard the latest but I find it hard to imagine you can get any better than the long meditative piece “Mukti”!

Will be purchasing the recent albums soon enough.

Though technically, she’s Indonesian, her music is awesome, and has some East Indian flavor, I think.

This is the album that I have, and heartily recommend.

Bah. Her name is Anggun. Silly poster. twaks self

 Thanks!

yes, i enjoy the sounds too… as mentioned ravi is sweet, so is his daughter anouskha, she really plays the sitar insanely well…just go too the world music section in your local college record store and check it out…or to something a little more mainstream so you can listen to pretty much anything…i’d also recommend music by devotees of Krishna(example temple songs on apple records harrison had a hand in it i believe) lust browse around and expect to waste a little money…

And for Indian Tabla mixed into hip-hop, try Tabla Beat Science’s “Tala Matrix” and “Live in San Francisco.”

I’m reminded of the Simpsons when Apu has Homer and Marge over for dinner. He puts on a record and it sounds like typical sitar stuff, and then says “oops, wrong speed”, puts it down to 33 1/3 and it’s Sinatra.
