You all look like you know stuff about things, so here goes.

I am looking for some music recommendations. More specifically, I am looking for the sort of music that you often hear in film scores, the dangerous music that builds ominously to a crescendo. Not much to go on I know, but I am looking music like these:

Everloving, Moby

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/hUD7m3MZOt4/hqdefault.jpg "Moby - Everloving") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUD7m3MZOt4)

Tribal war, Black Hawk Down

[![]( " - YouTube") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6gWYjHYvd8)

Ashes to Ashes, Black Hawk Down

[![]( " - YouTube") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfuqxrWJAT8)

Massive Attack, Angel

[![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/hbe3CQamF8k/maxresdefault.jpg "Massive Attack - Angel") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbe3CQamF8k)

Does anybody get what I am after? Any suggestions?

You might be into some of JG Thirlwell’s stuff. Here’s [How to Vibrate](http://youtu.be/UrKWhRypZXA).

Not the same genre, but has the same crescendo and primal thing going on.

Ummm, try some film soundtracks? The \*Pirates of the Caribbean \*soundtracks are pretty good, and sound much like you describe.

I have this one, and I should have used it as an example as it is exactly the type of thing I am talking about. Good call.

Ummm, I’d find it rather inefficient to listen to every film soundtrack ever made, so I thought I would ask for recommendations, you know, narrow the search down a bit. Crazy I know.

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions!

Ah, now thats what Im talking about, good shout.

The thing is, I know I should be looking at classical music for this type of music, but it seems to my uneducated ear that so many classical songs will sound badass, but then some bloody flutes or something will trill away for a few minutes right in the middle, thus spoiling the effect. That is why I specifically mentioned movie soundtracks, as they seem to be more focused. Something like “Dual of the Fates” stays ominous right the way through.

Sorry, just not feeling that one, it has that up and down all over the place sound that so puts me off a lot of classical music.

Michael Gira of Swans does this in a lot of his songs. The last album by Angels of Light, one of his side projects, uses it in some fashion on almost every song – you can hear what I’m talking about in [“Sometimes I Dream I’m Hurting You.”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVVmYU8Y6Xs) And, of course, there’s the latest album from Swans, which has songs like [“Inside Madeline”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUZR2j9J6vs&feature=related) and [No Words/No Thoughts](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADeOg8qbNMc).

Have you heard the rest of the Mezzanine album by Massive Attack? If not, I suspect you’d like it.

Also, maybe some Goran Bregovic? How about:

[Ederlezi](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU--Ox25DCo) or perhaps [The Belly Button of the World](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On5UahTxo84)?

That’s the track that pretty much defines building to an onimous crescedo. Off the same album, Mezzanine, [Dissolved Girl](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdpluQpyAn8) and [Group Four](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HnF5T4Neuc) also fit the bill.

That’s what I came in for – not specifically the symphony, but his String Quartets. Plus, Shostakovich was (among lots else) a film composer of sorts. Dynamics are the name of the game, though, so maybe there might not be much out there that keeps dynamics pretty static.

I like a lot of the soundtracks from my video games…and I own an album by the Black Mages. That might or might not be what you’re looking for.

[- YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgmaQCffXYw) (JENOVA)

[- YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87e5qQnVerI&feature=related) (Fight with Seymour)

How about a playlist? [Black Mages Live: Distant Worlds - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpgIAqAjbKo&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=AV4oVf-d_DwKDKIzlaQNDeA9VfF0T99wrQ)

Edit: The first song on that playlist might not be what you want, try the next one.
