Music that has unremovable associations for you

Not quite sure if this is quite what you mean, but I lost my virginity while the song “Father Figure” (by the late George Michael) was playing on the radio. That event is forever associated with that song for me now.

Unfortunately, the song lasted longer than I did that day.

All depends on whether it’s sliding up or sliding down…

I have the same association, but only when I hear it played on the synthesizer by Walter/Wendy Carlos. Otherwise the association isn’t so strong.

Old? Pffft I remember cigarette ads that used popular and classical music. Lark (used the William Tell overture) and Chesterfield 101s (just a silly millimeter longer, 101!) I think rephrased a few bars of La Bamba.

Welcome to my shop! Let me cut your mop!
Daintily!
Daintily!

I can’t hear Vesti La Giubba from Pagliacci without thinking of an old Rice Krispies commercial:

No more Rice Krispies!
We ran out of Rice Krispies!
My tears will not stop
Until I hear, “snap, crackle, pop!”
Watch ithere.

For me, as a pro wrestling fan, it’s inextricably linked to Daniel Bryan.

I can’t find it on YouTube, but it was also a memorable STP commercial: “STP you need your STP, one little can… keeps you running free…”

Just Dropped In by Kenny Rogers & The First Edition. The Dude abides…

I’ve been a teacher for 17 years. Every year, every graduation, I can’t hear “Pomp and Circumstance” without expecting Randy Savage to run down the isle and hit the principal with a flying elbow drop.

That Scatman song will always be the “Poo Button” song.

ETA: if you don’t know what the “Poo Button” is, Google at your own risk. You’ve been warned.

It’ impossible for me to hear the Dance opf the Hours from Ponchielli’s La Gioconda without hearing Allan Sherman turning into “A Letter from Camp” (“Hello Muddah! Hello Faddah! Here I am at … Camp Granada!”) not even all the alligators, ostriches, and hippos from Disney’s Fantasia can wipe that association from my brain.
