yeah, music on the radio(with the exception of NPR/PRI and college radio of course) does suck. it sucks a lot. the reason that it seems that theres a lot of terrible music out there is, quite simply enough, because there is an awful lot of terrible music out there. This is because theres _an awful lot of music out there_, and most of it is bad…you’re surprised by that? (of course the flip side of this is that theres quite a bit of good music out there as well…you just have to go find it. ) ---

Alphagene. Na-ah. That’s not what I was talkin’ 'bout, dickless. The irony of the OP is bloody obvious if you know where it was taken from. If you don’t know then one would obviously agree with it. The simple fact of it all is that Matt Pinfield, a (former? I don’t know I don’t watch mtv.) v-jay rants and raves about this on a limp bizkit cd. Someone I was talking to was spouting this same stuff and I wanted to see what kind of reaction it would get. I know that limp bizkit is mainstream and I hear the beginnings of their tired shit all the time. I do listen to 80s, 70s, even some 60s. Plus a little jazz, big band/swing, classical and folk. But I can’t live on a steady diet of one type of music. I may have misunderstood the OP. It sounded to me as if “new music sucks because it’s not like old music”. ---

I also agree, most people hate the “new”, (whatever it may be) and cling to what is old and familiar. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they are not pests and jerks to the people who enjoy the “new” stuff. Eclectic musical tastes are to be admired, I guess. I admit that I have some variety in my tastes, but 95% of the time, I listen to orchestral/classical style music. It’s just what I like. My car radio is _always_ - I mean _ **ALWAYS** _ - on the Classical station. So what of it? At least I’m not complaining about how crappy it is. I have a friend who listens to 0% non-Classical music (i.e. pop/rock music), (as compared to my 5%). This bothered her sister. She complained to her friends that her “horrible, closed-minded sister wouldn’t listen to the Beatles.” The friends were appalled and said “Well, we’ll have to help her get over that! She should be exposed to the Beatles!” And my reaction is - _WHY?!?_ Why bother to influence someone who has no interest in the Beatles to listen to the Beatles? Who frigging cares? If this girl wants to listen to All Dead Guys’ music (Classical), who frigging cares? ---

Okay, okay, I forget that I need to be specific. Here’s the deal with the point I was trying to make: 1-Limp bizkit is very mainstream. 2-The text from the OP was mainly taken from their CD. 3-The irony here should be obviuos. Get it? When I say “Duh I was being sarcastic,” what I mean is that I am attempting to get several reactions to the same rant that sounds ridiculous on a mainstream “pimp rock” band. Doesn’t that make sense? I figured once it was revealed that limp bizkit put this on their CD, it would be obvious that they look like shmucks. That was my point with this. I didn’t notice wear I got torn up for my inconsistencies. I wasn’t aware of any. It was a simple, if not subtle point I was trying to make. I acknowledge the possibility that it was my writing skills (or lack thereof) that may be the culprit here, but in any case, it seems that it is only you Alhpagene, and I, who are even remotely concerened. And oh yeah, thanks for bringing the multiple name thing to my attention, I guess they haven’t heard from me yet. I am sure it will resolve itself. And one more thing: Hell no that doesn’t mean we can’t be pals! I am not a prick, I can assure you. It’s just that this it the pit, so we can bear our mutual teeth. On that tip: Before you say that I have been ate up for some inconsistencies, you should provide some evidence of them. And when you argue with someone, the idea is to provide concrete examples to back up why you are cool and they are dumb. When you bring up extraneous crap that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, you look a fool, and no one listens to you. Finally, not liking someone for no apparent reason and jumping all over their ass because you had a bad day could be indicative of a deeper mental problem, and maybe you should look into getting a prescription for Xanax. However, I said it before and I’ll say it again… If you want to make a pissing contest out of this, you win. If you want me to say “I’m wrong, you’re right, I suck, you’re cool, you’re very handsome/beautiful, I’m not attractive,” then fine. If you want to actually respond to what I wrote and the intended meaning behind it, and even attack it and grade it for grammar, punctuation and spelling, fine. How many times have I said, let’s drop this? Twice? How many times have I said “If you want to turn this into a pissing contest, you win,”? Puff had a valid point and I was responding to it. Sorry if this offended you. [/middle finger extended] Anyway, if you want to talk about what the OP was saying, that’s cool. Here we go. Music is an industry. It’s only natural that there will be individuals-self-styled “purists”-who refute the mainstream and all the capitalism it stands for and is driven by. There are the inevitable beatniks who think that music is tainted when it becomes the money-making behemoth that many bands and acts so often succumb to. This is known as selling out. How appropriate. This is all so much bullshit, as money makes the world go 'round baby! Not only that, but success is a relative measure. Making music isn’t all about money to everyone. Doing anything isn’t all about money to everyone, the point is that the amount of money something makes is how society measures success. Deny it all you want, even the dictionary includes _“the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence”_ among it’s definitions of success. So it’s safe to say that the reason radio sucks is that it is a business. The way to make money in the radio business is to have a shitload of listeners so your advertisers will fork over the cash for airtime. One of the ways to do this is to play all the “chart-topping, teeny-bopping, disposable happy horseshit” that teens listen to today. As the fastet growing consumer group in America, teenagers today have more money-as much as $100/week!-to blow on crap than they ever have before. The teen juggernaut wields enormous clout economically, as they buy all the CD’s, T-shirts, concert tickets, and other merchandise that is related to the prefabricated pokemon-style marketing gimmick Britney Spears “Boy Band” genre of music. Simple laws of commerce say that since there is money in it, businesses will cater to it. It just doesn’t get any simpler that supply/demand. There isn’t a problem here since there are alternatives for those of us who don’t want to hear this drivelous dreck. And it is just big business. College radio and CD-Changers, classic rock stations and so on all give us an escape from these stations that suck. ## What the body of the OP says is as insipid as someone who hates Chinese :Dfood continually going to a Chinese restaurant and complaining that the food sucks. I know it seems that I am contradicting what I posted as the OP, and that is because I am. The fact that limp bizkit put this on their album made me want to throw it away, and it was so cool otherwise. And that’s all I have to say about that. You’ve got to make the distinction between commercial radio and the rest of the dial. Commercial stations are in the game to make as much long green as they can, hence the ‘drivel’ so often cited here. It’s no different than 90 per cent of the dreck Hollywood cranks out. But, particularly around cities, there are welcome havens on the lower end of the dial. Check NPR . . . college radio . . . other alternatives – especially online. There’s no excuse any more to subject yourself to _merde_. As for music, I’ll make it real easy for you: \
