Music with one-word female name as its title

Also-are we counting two-word names? Because then we need

Quite so. To keep things more or less apples and apples, I think we should stick with compositions that are pretty much stand-alone songs or instrumentals that would play in less than 10 minutes (or so). Arias might bridge the gap, as would overtures and chamber pieces. The thing is, none of them are coming to mind that have the one word female name as a title. There have to be some, but I just haven’t thought of one yet.

As a case in point to compare with, let’s say something along the lines of Anitra’s Dance (with the appropriate one-word title) might be one to aim for.

If we don’t stick with one-word titles we will open the flood gates and this thread will balloon into a monster!

I believe we’re doing fine with the one-word batch.

It might be fun to start another thread with some other criteria, though. Have at!

Jezebel - 10,000 Maniacs

Polly - Nirvana

Sherry
Sheila

Warning to Dopers: I was accessing SDMB on my iPhone and “(867-5309)” came up with a blue underline. Thinking it was a link, I touched it and came THIS close to calling Who-knows-who. BEVARE!

Caramba!

Rio by Duran Duran

You have won the thread!

ETA: Yo! A cheat sheet: http://www.songfacts.com/category-songs_with_girls'_names_in_the_title.php

That’s Latin for “glory”, not a woman’s name.

Here’s Iggy Pop with another “Candy”

“Agatha” by Pond
“Angeline” by PJ Harvey

“Judith” by Heather Duby

“Evelyn” by Clan of Xymox

“Suzanne” by Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions

“Julia” by Horrorpops

Lucille (Little Richard)
Lucille (Frank Zappa)
Lucille (B.B. King. It’s a one-word female name, even if the song is about a guitar.)

“Winona” Drop Nineteens

“Delilah” Dresden Dolls

“Rapunzel” Emilie Autumn

“Eleanor” The Gathering

“Elizabeth” Ghost (aka Ghost BC)

“Roxy” Girls Against Boys

“Maria” Guano Apes

Here’s a few names already mentioned, but each is a different song from the one linked earlier:

Julia – Conway Twitty

Jezebel – Herman’s Hermits (actually Frankie Lane did it first, but I’ve always liked HH’s version)

Fancy – The Kinks (though given Ray Davies’ predilection, there’s some debate as to whether this is a girl or not!)

Lorelei – Marty Robbins
…and a new one:

Karen –The Rip Chords

Dominique, per Wikipedia, whose list of Namesakes Real includes more than females.

With the subject “Music with one-word female name as its title”, there are…thousands? of qualifiers from many eras and languages. Nine fine…

Some Mancini goodies:

Natalie

Joanna

Nancy

Another Joanna –Kool and the Gang

and

Jo-Ann –The Playmates (a hyphenated word is still one word!)

How can we forget Barry Manilow ? – MANDY

Ninja’d by DChord. I was just about to post Kool & the Gang’s “Joanna” but took the time to read through the thread first.

Here’s another Joanna, by Cris Williamson. The link is to a cover by Meg Christian 'cos nobody has uploaded Cris’s original.
Then there’s the first “Angela”. For Angela Davis.
And the first “Sara” was for Sara Dylan. Can’t post a link because YouTube isn’t allowed to have any Dylan originals.
