There is one album that I can name as the sort-of _Dark Side of the Moon_ of the past say, 15 years. It is Macintosh Plus _Floral Shoppe_. It’s a great album and if you want to talk about the influence spreading like mad … that one’s it. It wasn’t exactly a sleeper, but it was released online through Bandcamp in its very earliest days, didn’t trouble any charts that I know of, and inspired a whole lot of people. Part of it is because Ramona Xavier (the artist’s real name) uses aliases and pseudonyms far more than Richard James (Aphex Twin) ever did, and it seems like a lot of people can’t comprehend it much less deal with it. ---

when i got high for the first time i had the instrumental version of ‘limerence’ by yves tumor, it just blended in with everything; myself laying on my bed getting baked while contemplating about life, my room a fucking mess with little to no chance of it getting clean anytime soon, the room getting more darker as time goes by… it just blended in elegantly in ways even _i_ can’t put into words. ---

Fortunately, my car’s radio can rewind and replay. I think I probably kept backing it up and listening to it again for an hour. When I had to stop to pee and shut the car off, I had to quit listening to it for the time being. I didn’t know who Panda Bear was at the time. I then looked him up and found he’s a member of Animal Collective. I always felt of them like I feel about Frank Zappa: interesting, but not what I regularly go to for entertainment. I eat up most of what he does solo, though. If he’s doing something with Sonic Boom from Spacemen3, even more so. Oooh, and if this Sonic Boom track was a cassette tape, I’m sure I would have already worn it out long ago. The 3rd game had great music, but not AS amazing as the first two, with a different composer. ---

I just came across this 1970 live Pink Floyd performance in the KQED studios, and it’s definitely the right stuff for this thread. And even if you’re not high, if that’s a favorite era for Pink Floyd, it’s just great to have it on in the background.
