I am a little sad I missed the first couple of rounds, oh well. Trumpet I like the sax, but sax players really take it down a notch for me. Trumpet for the win! 2. Clarinet All about the Clarinet Idiophones/Membranophone bracket: 1. Drumkit Drumkit can mean so many things. Timpani are always Timpani. 3. Vibraphone Hard, but Steel drums are almost never used well. Chordophone bracket: 1. Banjo As a guitar player I will let you know that deep down we all want to play banjo. 2. Cello No comment for this one, I just like the Cello Electronic/Mechanical bracket: 1. Harpsichord See my comment at the top of the thread re: Harpsichord and coolness. 1. Electric Guitar Ok, my real answer is probably pipe organ, but since I chose banjo over acoustic guitar I feel I have to stand up for my primary instrument. ---

A Chickering upright, which has been in my family for the last 4 or 5 generations. Unfortunately not all of the keys work, and I have been warned that replacing the parts (strings, hooks, etc) would make it lose its antique value. Still, you have got to love the response action of a harpsichord, which operates by plucking strings, rather than hammering them. I also believe it to be a CARDINAL SIN for anything originally composed for Harpischord to be recorded and published while playing a Piano (which is unfortunately true for almost every Bach sonata out there…) Oh uh. If anybody else wants to vote Harpsichord, be my guest. ---

My votes follow below. Aerophone bracket: 1. Trumpet (I am learning to play it now, as a matter of fact) 2. Clarinet (Definitely prefer the sound of this one) Idiophones/Membranophone bracket: 3. Drumkit (Rock all the way, baby!) 4. Vibraphone (I prefer the sound of this one) Chordophone bracket: 5. Steelstring Acoustic Guitar (This one was easy to decide). 6. Cello (But this one was REAL HARD… I ended up going with the cello for its sound). Electronic/Mechanical bracket: 7. Acoustic Grand Piano (Another hard one! But the piano is more expressive). 8. Pipe Organ (No contest here, though. Pipe Organ FTW!) Just my 2 eurocent! ---

It looks like the banjo is going down in flames. Let me take a moment to tell you all how wrong this decision is. I am a guitar player. I play steelstring acoustic easily as often as electric, and while it is cool…the banjo it totally awesome! Not as awesome as mandolin, and nowhere near as killer as the ukelele, but still totally awesome. Steelstring isn’t even as cool as nylon string (though infinitley more useful). So what I am saying is…vote banjo, because it’s just cool and steelstring acoustic is really kind of a boring instument. ---
