You know what I mean. The song goes into its endless fadeout repeat of the chorus, and somebody sneaks in a line or a melody from some other song. Examples I can think of: [ul] [li]_Good Morning_ (The Beatles) - the opening riff from _In the Mood_, and _Greensleeves_.[/li][li]_Tubthumping_ (Chumbawumba) - _Trumpet Voluntary_[/li][li]_We Go Together_ (\*Grease \*Soundtrack) - _Who Put the Bomp?_ and _Witch Doctor_[/li][li]_Love Is the Seventh Wave_ (Sting) - _Every Breath You Take_, with alternate lyrics (“Every cake you bake / every leg you break”)[/li][/ul] Got any others? ---

That was John singing “She Loves You.” He’d been doing it before the final recording, too. ---

Pretty much every single Police song ends with the repetitive fadeout. I don’t think Sting learned how to end a song any other way until he was well into his solo career. I didn’t really notice that until I got the Police box set (Message In a Box), at which point it became painfully obvious. ---

Robert Plant did this on a couple of his solo tracks. On the endings of _Tall Cool One_ and _Your Ma Said You Cried In Your Sleep Last Night_ he breaks into _Black Dog_ lyrics to the tune of the new song. ---

I could’ve sworn there was a snipped of a song from _Tommy_ at the end of one of the songs on _Who’s Next_ (or vice versa) but I can’t find it. Something akin to having some of the “right behind you I see the millions” appear in “Song is Over” - ?? Could be an auditory hallucination I guess. ---

Indigo Girls strum Ode to Joy toward the end of “Cedar Tree”. The Beatles used Frere Jacques within Paperback Writer. [Speaking of whom, did they really say “Baby you’re a rich fag Jew” at the end of “Baby You’re a Rich Man”, like Rock Lists said they did? In reference to their manager?] ---

At the end of the Captain and Tenille’s _Love Will Keep Us Together_ Toni Tennille breaks up the da-da-da-da’s with the line “Sedaka is back!” Neil Sedaka, the composer, of course. Legendary pop writer and singer. ---

[/QUOTE] It is indeed “Song Is Over,” but the quote is not from _Tommy_–it’s from “Pure and Easy,” a song that was left off _Who’s Next_, appearing instead on Pete Townshend’s first solo album, _Who Came First_. ---

[/QUOTE] You’re probably thinking of a quote from the song “Pure and Easy” which was written about the same time as the “Who’s Next” sessions but didn’t show up on LP until the “Odd and Sods” album. Does Carly Simon’s segue into the “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” at the end of “It’s Coming Around Again” count? Pink Floyd’s “Time” (DSOTM) does a brief reprise of “Breathe” before going into the Great Orgasm in the Sky, but I’m not sure that’s a legitimate example either…
