Nitpick–not “palomino,” “my libido!”
Thanks for the correction - although it seems to reinforce the fact that the words are just words - they have no real meaning…
As for Miles Davis - I have heard that he was super super smart - given all of the exploration he did and the musical innovation he championed, it would support that. I have also heard he was impenetrable - no one around him knew what was going on in his head.
But smart and obtuse is different from being a musical genius but clueless otherwise, so I guess he wouldn’t fit this category I am thinking of…
I’d definitely categorize an arrogant, junkie, wife-beater as a clueless lout. He’s also a musical genius who’s recordings I’ve spent entirely too much money on. He was a pretty talented painter, too.
You could say I’m a little conflicted in my feelings about him.
Al Jolson comes to mind. I’m not referring to the blackface stuff, which didn’t have the freight in his day that it does now. The guy was a jerk in a lot of ways, especially to performers sharing the stage with him (he’d have ones who were too well received fired) and to his wives.
In the interviews I’ve seen, he comes off as sharp and articulate, if a little abrasive. Abrasive doesn’t bother me, but I could see him putting people off.
“Jimmy Rabbitte” was the band’s manager, “Deco Cuffe” was the singer.
