I think The Pretenders are the most overrated band in the entire history of the universe, but I do like “Back on the Chain Gang” or whatever that song is called. ---

I have no use for Britney’s overly-manufactured pop-tart music, but “Toxic” is just a cool, fun song… and it was her first Grammy win, for whatever that’s worth. I personally like it for the spy movie soundtrack influence. Vanilla Ice is better off forgotten, but “Ice Ice Baby” is still a lot of fun, for its ironic/nostalgia value. And I’m saying that as a huge fan of Bowie and Queen’s “Under Pressure,” which Ice blatantly ripped off without crediting. ---

This is sort of like what you’re talking about: I hate most of Prince’s output, enjoy a little bit of it (Never Take the Place of Your Man, Raspberry Beret, Sign O’ the Times), but “When Doves Cry” is one of the greatest songs ever. ---

I’m all for Classis Rock–I grew up with that stuff–but I just never got into some of the super-popular groups. Now, because of total overexposure I’ve come to despise these people. There is only one Lead Zeppelin (I prefer to spell it that way) song I like; “Boogie With Stu”. The amazing thing is the number of LZ fans I’ve mentioned this to who claim to have never heard of it. I like “The Girl With The Far Away Eyes” by Plastic Soul (you may have heard them referred to as The Rolling Stones), but nothing else by them. I like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, but only the Devo version. ---

I normally only listen to Britney’s music in video form, because she’s so much more fun to look at than to listen to. But _Toxic_ is… I dunno. It just gets my toes tapping. Well, it’s actually a pretty darn good song. Inventive. Maybe it’s because it’s at such a different tempo from most of her stuff? ---

Oh, and U2. After all these years, they finally put out a song I like: _Vertigo_. I think I like it just because The Edge isn’t going “dinka-dinka-dinka-dinka…” all the way through it. ---

I hate classic rock - it bores me to tears. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton - I don’t care that they were “talented” musicians; I found their songs neither catchy nor rocking. Still, I like a couple songs off _In Through The Out Door_ (which just proves how much I’m _not_ a fan of Zeppelin to most Zeppelin fans), I enjoy some of Pink Floyd’s stuff from when Syd Barrett was in the band (and can listen to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” without slipping into a coma), like pretty much everything by The Yardbirds (even Clapton and Page), and “Little Wing” by Hendrix is decent (not drowned in too much bullshit psychedelic sludge). Also, though I’m no fan of heavy metal, I like “Drifter” by Iron Maiden and all kinds of early Motorhead. ---

Peoples is funny. I certainly have no wish to disparage other’s tastes, but I must admit that I find it bizarre that some folks here are saying: I hate the (classic rock band) but (these one or two or three songs) are cool. Example, someone said “I hate the Stones but Can’t You Hear Me Knockin is cool.” Great song, that. One of the very best Stones numbers. But it’s not unusual in any way, in terms of how the Stones sound. Two cuts before it, on Sticky Fingers, is Sway. Another brilliant Stones tune (the Glimmer Twins get my vote as best rock songwriters ever, narrowly surpassing Lennon/McCartney), a fucking sick rocker, but it has the same sound and feel as can’t You Hear Me Knockin. Doesn’t it? I see that it’s happened, but for me it’s difficult to understand how one could despise Sway and love Can’t You Hear Me Knockin. Just sayin. To the ZZ Top person, their first four albums, a couple before all that Legs and Sharp Dressed Man pap, are somewhat obscure but seriously kick ass. Just Got Paid, Heard It on the X, Francine, man those tunes rock. Give em a listen. ---
