Must Have Movies for My Daughter & Me?

Oh, and I can’t believe I forgot Rollie Polie Ollie. If she likes computer animation I bet she’ll love those.

The Wizard of Oz
Bugs Bunny Superstar
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

And, sadly but inevitably…
Barney

My almost-3-year-old nephew is way into the old Fleischer Superman cartoons (DVD is available at Amazon). They look pretty sophisticated for young kids, but he really likes them. It might be a boy thing, though.

Charlotte’s Web
All Dogs Go To Heaven (although it’s a real tear-jerker)
Savannah Smiles
Wizard of Oz

Meet the Feebles.

Puppets are cute!

Dumbo. My mom and I watched it together when I was over 20, we still held hands and cried when the mommy elephant was locked up!

Well, YMMV. Thats why I advise renting it first. With the DVD you can skip right over the explosions at the beginning (which I think are no scarier than some scenes in Monsters, Inc. or A Bug’s Life, but what do I know, I’m a grownup).

Oddly, my son is not especially intrepid in real life. Loud noises, strangers and barking dogs and such scare him, but he hasn’t exhibited real fear of anything he’s seen on TV.

Completely non-scary, non-controversial, and fun for kids AND grownups is the Wallace and Gromit adventures on DVD. All three shorts, plus a few extras. Funny, cute and intelligent. I swear there is something else you notice every time you see them.

 Completely agree - with toddlers, YMMV is always the case! And oddly enough, my daughter is afraid of nothing - which is pretty scary for me - but gets freaked out by things on TV.

And I’ll second the Wallace and Gromit recommendation. Funny, sweet, and entertaining for adults as well as kids. My favorite in the series is “The Wrong Trousers.”
