# Must I know her last name?

Anyone I meet has to tell me their name at least 3 times before I can remember it.

As a member of a 12 step fellowship, I have close friends with whom I have shared deep dark secrets, but am not sure what thier last names are. I don’t think I ever told them mine. With us, it’s just not very important.

Maybe he doesn’t intend to google her. They may be satisfied with a platonic relationship.

Does anyone else have an image of the OP screaming “_DOLORES!_”

If you must resort to pointless subterfuge, have her over at your house and access a website that gives [naming histories](http://www.behindthename.com/), then ask her for the exact spelling of her surname so you can, heh-heh, look it up.

Of course, you’ll look like a complete moron if she says “S-M-I-T-H.”

walrus, i’ve been in your situation before… i think it’s fine not to know the last name, initially atleast. it doesn’t seem as important to me as does our vibing amazingly well. eventually you will get to know her last name in such situations anyways.

i guess your mom has a different view point. i can understand where she’s coming from, but i’m from the other side of town.
