The neighbor family moved out about two years ago. I’m pretty sure they hadn’t made a house payment in over a year. For some strange reason, the house never went on the market, even though many people were interested in buying it. The house has been sitting there rotting for two years, and I guess “Nimrod” the alcoholic ex-neighbor guy decided he might as well move back in.

Nimrod lost his job and his family due to his drinking. He’s homeless, but has been staying with another neighbor “Bob”. Bob lets him stay as long as Nimrod isn’t rip-roaring drunk, but those times are getting fewer and fewer.

Nimrod is actually a good guy when he isn’t drunk. He’s smart and has a lot of skills. It’s very painful to watch him self-destruct. Everyone except Nimrod sees the future, which is that Nimrod will continue to drive drunk until he kills somebody.

Anyway, today Nimrod has gotten some furniture from somewhere, and he’s moving it into his old house. The house is totally trashed out, the roof has collapsed in places, and the walls are covered with black mold. I’m pretty sure that Nimrod intends to turn the utilities back on without notifying the utility companies.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

How does a house get that thrashed in only two years? A roof shouldn’t collapse just because no one is living there. I guess I can understand why it isn’t on the market though…

A big tree limb fell on the roof during a nasty storm. No one repaired the damage, and water has been leaking in ever since.
