The Vatican has also delicately backed away from the Shroud of Turin, using the term “icon” rather than “relic” to show caution. re the Virgin of Guadalupe, ordinary paint pigments and binders, on a soft-woven “canvas” surface, in a conventional style, with visible brush-marks. A delightful piece of cultural art, but as miracles go, a bit of a flop.
