If instead of Rory you said Moesha or Hakeem… But anyway I’ll follow your trip. One of the dumbest (looking) sounding name to me is Deirdre. ---

That’s not how I interpret the story. She chose the name Lorelai while “whacked out on Demerol,” and some time later Rory chose her own nickname, likely because she couldn’t yet pronounce Lorelai correctly.
