Bryan, You and gobear have earned the very first two nominations for the Funniest Flame for Foolish Fanatics (aka Four F). Of course, it’ll be a serious contest judged no doubt by the Teeming Millions[sup]TM[/sup]. I feel, though, that your post is a good second to gobear’s “[…]so dense your head has an event horizon” comment. Others may think your recent comment deserves the award. Let the judging begin! I’ve a question for MEBuckner, though: How do you feel about a thread started in GD obviously NOT for the purpose the OP says it was? Obviously, I’m referring to SW’s “I want to be a Jew” thread. Just a thought **Willy** ; I think it was when we were on the temporary board that you voiced something to the effect that people with controversial opinions would be banned or otherwise suppressed on the SDMB (simply because they aren’t in the ‘clique’ or something like that); you aren’t merely trying to prove the point are you? ---

Random, very theoretical thought, but possibly tangentally important to the topic at hand… If I recall correctly, in one of Zev or Chaim’s threads, the point was made that you don’t have to believe in God to be a good practicing Jew. You just have to follow his laws. All of them. Must you affirm you believe in God to convert, or just swear to follow his laws? That’s the whole Chosen People business in a nutshell. It’s an extra burden, not an extra blessing. Hey, all goyim have to do is follow the seven Noahide laws and they get to go to heaven if they want. If I recall correctly. Ethnically, I’m more of a Extremely Reform Jew, so I’m not all that sure about the specifics, here. ---

That does not mean however, that you cannot ask questions. But in the end, one must accept that God exists. (As an aside, if God didn’t exist, why keep the commandments?
