It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Isn’t Anything in its entirety, but I still love the song, “No More Sorry.” Amazingly atmospheric guitar work. My favorite song on the album, even.
According to a Nov 8, 2007, Guardian article, they have gotten back together to record.
I dunno. Perhaps something has happened in the interim, but that’s the last I remember hearing about that.
The joke is that this news item has been repeated every six months, literally, since 1991. MBV is always “about to release the followup to Loveless sometime later this year.” For 17 years now.
You’re not totally wrong here (every six months is an exaggeration) but I’ll bet money that they release an album in 2008. MBV has confirmed tour dates for the first time in about 15 years.
I’m an* Isn’t Anything *over Loveless kinda guy, myself, by a hair’s breadth - although my absolute favourite’s the Ecstasy & Wine double EP comp. Strawberry Wine may be the most perfect (non-Shelleyan Orphan) pop song out there.
Here’s your chance to tell me I’m a fucking idiot:
I went to see MBV in, oh, 1990/91 or so at the old 9:30 club in DC. They were using tape backup, which pissed me off, and I walked out after a handful of songs.
I like both *Isn’t Anything * and Loveless a lot, and I count that as one of those moments of abject stupidity that I wish I could mulligan.
Yeah. This is the first time I heard anything approaching seriousness on MBV’s level for releasing a new album. I remember hearing rumors every couple of years, but I don’t ever actually remember Kevin Shields coming out and telling the media that, yes, we’ve all gotten back together, we’re touring, and we’re recording an album.
Just thought I’d bump this in light of the new album talk from years ago in this thread.
It was released last night!
It’s pretty good on a first listen - starting in pretty much Loveless vein (probably stuff dating from back then), with a very poppy middle section, and then cranking up to a pretty damn excellent and deranged finish. Recommended for MBV fans.
Just FYI, they’ve released the whole thing to Youtube as well. Start here
I had a rush of blood to the head and ordered the vinyl + CD + download package (£18 seemed like a good deal). Apparently the artwork isn’t finalised for the discs. Given the usual “Kevin from MBV” time dilation I expect to get them in about 2026.
