Well, Shibb, if you consider being the strongest, bravest, handsomest soldier in the entire Army to be a fine soldier, then yeah, he has been. And oh yes…the granchildren drumbeat is definitely started!
Well, just as soon as I can persuade him to knock his wife up. I keep telling him to! They’re going to be back in Tampa in early fall, we’ll probably visit not long afterward.
Wow, I am easily confused. I have been thinking for quite a while that you are the mom of someone else who was in Afghanistan. Unless you have more than one son that serves?
No, only the one, to my knowledge. I myself am also active duty, and have also been to Afghanistan, which I’ve mentioned here on the boards. Maybe that’s what you were remembering?
“I got blown up, but only a little!” might be the most endearing ‘soldier telephoning home’ anecdote I’ve ever heard. What a cool guy, to keep a sense of humor in a situation like that.
You know Tripler and I have EOD friends w/ various levels of war-inflicted TBI so I hope you keep that in mind when I say **please **let him and his wife live w/ whatever affect it may bring him before they decide to start their family. I don’t intend to anger you or suggest your son is anything less than whole, only to say that brain injuries are mysterious and sometimes frustrating things.
After going to my first and hopefully last Arlington funeral last year, I am so very glad another person has made it home alive after an IED attack.
Heh…I realize you don’t know my son, so you may take my word for it…unless I, personally, was capable of knocking his wife up, he will be starting his family when they are both good and ready, and not before, no matter how many times I say “What are you doing on the phone with me? Go have sex with your wife, and skip the condoms.”
Oh my goodness, yes. And my first reaction to reading his mention in the TOA speech was “He did what, now!?”
I am not Bear’s mom, though I’m sure he’s a lovely young man. And thanks to you, and all who’ve posted such kind thoughts.
