No cat puke, no dog puke, and so far, I’ve managed to keep the dog from snacking on kitty tootsie-rolls. 😛

The worst cat-related stuff so far is that he likes to sleep in my bed, and when anything moves under the covers (like a hand or a foot) he feels compelled to attack. Luckily, I’m not a very restless sleeper, so attacks have been few and far between.

And I’ve already decided that he’s getting locked in the master bath when the movers come - otherwise, he’ll escape.

That’s all the cat-related news that’s fit to print.

Yay! I’m back-- you thought you got rid of me, but nooo, I dropped breadcrumbs to follow. This is good advice for newbies (hiya!) to this list-- high quality, glow in the dark breadcrumbs.

Today has been sorta strange. We all arrived for the first of eight days of gov’mint testing to find every lock in the whole school had been superglued shut. So we’re just sitting around, the kids are looking through my art history books, reading newspapers, and playing guitar now that the locks have been broken open. More fun than testing, but very expensive, repair-wise.

I went to PetSmart yesterday to stock up on kitty supplies. While there I noticed that some brands have hairball remedy variety food. This could maybe help with the pukiness of some of the cats around here. I don’t get to try this kind because my kitties eat the urinary tract health variety. So I deal with the barfiness in order to avoid the horror of crystallized cats.

**Lissla** , have you tried some of those sprays they sell to keep cats away from an area? I tried some when my one cat was developing the UTI, but we didn’t know yet. She was piddling everywhere and the spray helped somewhat. Not a miracle, but better. The one I tried smelled of coriander and others seem to be citrus based.

Heh, barfing on cats. That takes some talent **Ex** , since they’re moving targets y’know.

It’s comforting (_comforting?_) to know that other people’s pets puke often…I thought my dog had something seriously wrong with him as he was vomiting every few days for a week or so…but he’s ok now. I miss having a kitty, but I fear the current canine would eat it if I got one.

I did the work-in-the-yard-and-stuff-around-the-house thing this Sunday as well. Saturday I visited Dad in the hospital (he’s home today) and spent a few hours at church doing pre-Greek Festival food preparation.

The man of the house did use the chainsaw to cut down some scraggly trees on the property that we’ve been meaning to get rid of for some time now.

That’s all for now…

Bah, cats aren’t that hard to miss!

Heck, the daughter managed to puke all over me, the dog, two chairs, about 10 square feet of floor space, her rocking horse and a footlocker with one shot…

If there had been a cat in the vicinity she’d have been sprayed but good!

> No, she’s going to be in a regular apartment complex about a mile or so from campus. When she and her dad went looking in December, he was most impressed by this particular complex, and having seen it, I understand why. It’s very well-kept, quiet, lots of parking, and reasonably priced. We offered her the option of going into one of those rent-a-room-that-shares-a-common-area, but it didn’t really appeal to her. So the agreement is we give her $XXX per month, and she needs to earn the rest to cover her expenses. Our share just about pays the rent, and water is included, so she’ll have to cover electric, phone, and cable/internet, as well as her share of insurance, her groceries, her gas, and fun money.

> Just a little foretaste of reality for her…

A mile or so from campus with ample parking? That is good as campus parking leaves much to be desired even with a sticker. At least she can opt to walk or bike.

This thread has delayed my choosing to find companionship with a cat or a dog by at least a year. Every time I start seriously thinking, “My life is stable enough to share with a living creature”, something comes up (like puke) to force me to re-think the decision. Yes, yes, yes, the hours of joy and compainionship are more than enough to offset the occasional bare foot in slimy gunk, but still . . . I think I’ll just continue to anthropomorphic-ise my stuffed animals. And my computer, but then, that’s a given.

See, my theory is that computers (especially MacIntosh computers) are not really inanamate beings. Oh, they’re are pretty immobile, but they have minds that just work away, just humming along. Therefore, computers have personalities. The debate is over whether this personality is innate, arising from the computer independent of any programing or use, or if the personality is derived from the personality of the software designer, the hardware designer and or the user, or some combination of these sources. If it is derived from external sources, does this make the computer a less independent being, or just by having a personality, does it also achieve individuality? How does the internet–whereby one computer is connected to many computers–enter into this discussion? Are computers connected to the internet part of a group mind? If so, are they still individuals–they can operate without an internet connection, after all, but does cutting them off from the internet merely free them from the group mind, or does it somehow leave the lone computer crippled, unable to reach its full potential? If you use a computer for an illegal purpose, is it an acomplice, or is it under duress (you could turn it off, after all)?

These are the questions raised by having a computer in my house–can you imagine what having a breathing creature in the house would do to me?

Don’t anthropomorphize computers - they hate it. 😉

Kallessa, sweetie, honey. I mean this in the nicest possible way: you need a pet.

Start small, like a betta fish. They’re practically plants and I’m pretty sure they don’t barf.

I currently have more cats than I know what to do with.
I’m doing some foster work for the Humane Society. I’ve got a mama cat with five little babies lodging in my guest room right now. The kits are about eight days old now and just starting to open their eyes. So adorable!
Anyone need a kitten in, oh, about eight weeks?

How do you know this?

Besides, they have their own personalities, so I’m really not anthropomorphizing, I’m just recognizing another sentient being. It just so happens that my brand new sentient being computer dislikes the memory they gave him, so I need to take him back to the store so they can do something about it. I’m not happy, but at least when I’m not happy, I don’t turn black and gray with code all over my face. My poor baby computer, he’s just so cute, and he hums so nicely. I hate it that he’s sick.
And I hate fish. Silly pets. Swim where they pee. Ick.

This just happened to me. The kitten crapped under the computer desk. Honestly, it might have been Bailey, but he’s never, ever broken litter training, so…

The vet wants us to wait to change anything until we talk to him, but I think we should go get a new litter box and litter **now**.

Well, **Shibb** , that might depend on whether or not they knew me in person . . .

I’m typing this on my new computer. Poor little guy, he doesn’t have all his memory, but he’s doing the best he can. They have to order the new memory (I wish I could order some new memories, I’m kinda bored with the ones I have).

Even though I have my new computer, and work is slow (so I have time and means to post both day and night), you all won’t hear from me next week. I will be in New York. Don’t be sad, I will return and revel you all with my adventures in the big city. I’m still looking for companions if any of you are at loose ends. One stop I plan to make–in fact, the only pure shopping I plan to do–is to go the The Town Shop and buy a few bras. Thus, the beginning of my post, and its ending, are related (and the boys (save **swampy** ) have something to think about all week).

Harkening back to the tool-related conversations (were they earlier in this MMP, or was it last week’s??) - anyway, I got my lawnmower back from the repair shop yesterday. They had to rebuild the carb, replace some filters, replace the blade, and I think that was all. $119. I was going to try to sell it for $100. I think I’m just going to hold on to it now. We’ll need a mower eventually at the new house, when we finally have grass, and since it was rebuilt, I guess it should be good to go for a while. So I won’t sell it.

Not as exciting as chain-sawing, but it’s still noisy and engine-driven. That should make **Ex** happy, and if he’s happy, so am I!
