Billy Bob had his first fight with another cat, Wednesday. Now he’s acting all traumatized, and he only got a tiny scratch on his ear.

He’s usually affectionate, but not much of a lap kitty, until Wednesday. Before my butt has completly made contact with a chair, there he is, in my lap.
He won’t go outside alone. And stays under the lawn furniture, when he does go out.

Until now, he’s only had staring contests with the cat nextdoor. And he stays in our yard, or the neighbor’s yards on either side. Plus, he’s huge and covered in muscle… and fluff. I suspect, the hugeness is why the neighbor’s cat has done nothing but stare.
But for some reason, he just had to see what would happen if he ventured across the street. It didn’t take long for him to find out. Evidently, the young tom over there, didn’t know you’re supposed to stare at eachother for hours before you make your move.

Poor Billy Bob, he’s so humiliated.

Why was Billy Bob able to cross the street? Responsible pet husbandry would indicate you at all time either have the pet tethered, fences orunder such command presence that at you will the pet responds. I feel for poor Billy bob. He should not have to suffer because you as the pet keeper are lacking.

Oh yes, I see this going to the Pit.

Poor baby!

Even though he only got a small scratch, check him over throughly and keep an eye on him - cats get abcesses from cat fight wounds very easily. Especially if it is a puncture wound.

Having a boring day?

He doesn’t roam. He stays indoors 98% of the time. And since I have no life, I’m able to keep a close watch on him while he’s out. Oh, and my yard is completly fenced off. That’s one reason why it’s so funny that he hides when he’s in the yard, because there’s no way another animal or a human can get into our yard without permission.

okay I apologize for being snarky. My dog does get out of hand once in a while. I was not bored, just frustrated with a cat owner who takes no responibilty at all. I say “A” cat owner, one specific person. I allowed my frustration and emotions get the best of me. You sound like a very responsible pet owner, I had no right to go of on you, I should have just pitted the less than responsible guy next door, but I ran accross your thread and took the lazy way out. I might add though, look into how Billy Bob got out, because that means others can get in… I got a pretty tigh system here, because I am keeping bunnies away from the garden, and not likely a dog near the size of Fox is going to get in.

My Jack Russel Terrier, [Sirius,](http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/AlbumID=42683977/PictureID=1281257166/a=43736900_43736900/t_=43736900) is a 'fraidy-cat when it comes to people. With other canines, even ones ten times his size and weight, he’s Mister Macho Fierce Dog, but with people he goes stock-still and trembles. I have to carry him if we’re going around strangers, and he tucks his head into my neck as if to hide.

This led to an amusing situation the other day. On his “perimeter patrol,” Sirius peeked under the fence and saw that Neighbor Lady’s cat was in her backyard. Now, Sirius labors under the delusion that anywhere he can see is his herritory and took offense at the cat’s nonchalant trespassing. He began to bark furiously.

Neighbor Lady came out into the yard to put a bag of trash in the can. When Sirius spotted her, he jerked back from the fence and went to hide behind a tree, a tatic which was apparently a success, because she vanished from his sight, and thus, existance. He ran back over the fence, intent on sending the cat fleeing in terror with his patented Very Stern Bark.

He stuck his head beneath the fence and started bellowing at the cat. She gave him an imperious look and went back to licking her paws. Neighbor Lady suddenly came back into view, having dropped off her trash beside the garage. Sirius let out a whine that was half fear and half frustration. He dashed back for the safety of the tree’s protection.

Feeling sorry for him, I went out to the fence. Delighted, he sat on my feet, stuck his head back under the fence and barked furiously, knowing that I would protect him from the Neighbor Lady. To his outrage, I scooped him up and carried him back into the house. He summoned enough courage to peek over my shoulder at the cat and give one last Very Stern Bark and did an indignant wiggle against my shoulder when the kitty ignored him.

When I let him out later, he ran to the fence and checked the view of the other side, his rump dancing in the air behind him in anticipation of another round of verbal combat, but the cat was nowhere in sight. He pulled his head back to our side of the fence and let out a little “Huff!” as if to say, “That’ll show her!” I guess he believes his barks have a delayed efficacy.

A cat thread with a pic of a dog rather than a pic of a kitty? Say it isn’t so.

This thread meows for kitty pics.

And do you ever shave Billy Bob?

I doubt he could make it that far. He can’t even go to the end of the yard, without running back to the house everytime one of the neighbors makes the tiniest noise.

He has an expression much like [this dog.](http://s93834343.onlinehome.us/images/Fluffy_Destroyer_of_Worlds.jpg) Perhaps he’s the feline sidekick?

Is it an American thing to have your cat restrained as much as a dog? Here in the UK cat’s roam at will, the only things they have to worry about are trigger happy farmers and cars on the road. If a cat comes into a garden it will either be fed or given a toe up the hole (as a fried of ours once called it.

As I understand, some, but not all areas have laws about keeping your cat restrained. Cats are subject to Animal Control and will be picked up by the pound if they’re running free.

Most owners feel its a good idea to keep their cats indoors. Some people believe that it’s cruel to let a cat roam around outside because of all the dangers out there.

And some of us, who don’t have pets, find it annoying that cats are often allowed to roam at will. We had an indoor/outdoor cat before, who was only allowed outside on a leash. My mother would hesitate to get another one, because our neighbors cats roam the neighborhood–with special emphasis on our yard. Cat fights are no fun.

The Variety of our cats amazes me:

Ginger is the collected Matriach and undiputed queen of the lot. She cares for the others, and though declawed (not by us, she was found that way) is probably the most effective and prolific hunter in the group.

Pepper came next and she has never quite acclimated to being alive in a dangerous world. I call her our fraidy cat because her shadow causes her extreme distress. Oddly enough she can be affectionate, but is easily frightened, even in the midst of a good wuzz.

Coriander is next and she is pretty even, though she retains some qualites of her mother’s (Pepper) uneasiness with the world. More affectionate and less often startled (except by our mashuga mutt Angel) she isn’t fond of other cats much, but tolerates all but the youngest (Juniper)

Juniper is the baby, the most affectionate, and adopted us by showing up at the house one night and moving in like she owned the place. Ginger treats her like she’s her own baby, frequently bathing and resting with her. She has also taught her to hunt. Along with being the youngest, she is the smallest, most affectionate and least afraid of any of them (though again, Angel is worrisome to everyone, me included–not in a dangerous way, just in a stupid dog kind of way. I honestly believe she means well, but it’s like she’s ADD and oblivious to everything but herself and her needs in the world. If she were a real angel, she’d be one of those Capital One Guardian Angels).

Maybe that should have been my own little post, but I can sympathize with having a fraidy cat for a cat.

[Lucretia](http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e260/dogbutler/Picture002.jpg) is not a pussy. She once clawed her way through an aluminium screen to beat up a cat twice her size. And she is declawd in front!
