Our neighborhood cat just came for a visit last week (a visit starts with several thumps on the roof, then we open the front door and there he is). Bhijan (well, we don’t know what his name is so we call him that) likes to lick Mr. Beckwall’s hair. I will get down on the floor and flaunt my hair, but he just passes me by to balance precariously whichever way is necessary to reach Mr. Beckwall’s hair. The other night he licked and groomed for a good 10 minutes, then laid down and started grooming himself. Mr. Beckwall resembled a cross between Alfred E. Neuman and Jimmy Fallon, but he wouldn’t let me get it on videotape.

Occasionally, Bhijan has licked my hair - this generally involves kneading my head violently with his claws, which has drawn blood on several times. He doesn’t seem to do that with Mr. B, and I have to wonder about the possibility that he senses our gender difference and chooses to show his power to females only.

A case for the pet psychiatrist, maybe.

If so, we’re using the same conditioner. Our cat, Wednesday, loves to climb on my shoulders and start chewing away. Curse you, Fructisse!
