Sounds like you have an axe to grind with Christianity … there’s an active thread in the pit right now. Debate is the back and forth of ideas, of sharing. I’d like for you to elaborate on a meaningless life, if you would.

Your perspective is simply your perspective and you are more than welcome to have it, keep it and speak to it. But that’s all it is.

What do you think blue laws were?

In this thread, no one gay or atheist is seeking to do anything but validate their own personal position anyway. That is why things are taken out of context, distorted, slanted with the posters’ opinions and so forth.

If we were to have a similar thread on homosexuals and bring up only the negative impacts of such a life style, shout down anything that might seem reality based (like people love who they love) it would be closed down for hate speech.

I think while homosexuals continue to attack the Church specifically, they might have peaked out at this time because all this discrimination, hate speech, attack and persecutions of Christians who are just going to church is starting to backlash. There are a lot more Christians population-wise in this country than there are gays, so if people are to be ‘shut up’, I’m thinking it will end up being the 2%.

Basically, if you don’t like Christianity, don’t go to a church, eh mate?

That’s right. Why should it matter to you if someone else regards divorce seriously for their own life?

Are you the thought police? Are you a control freak? Why do you care whether Christians adhering to a set of principles they value in their own lives practice those principles?

You are inviting Christians to a two way street that I seriously doubt can turn out well for the advances the gay lobby has made. Why not just move on and live your life instead of striving for destruction of the Church because you believe it disapproves of you.

What do you care what the Bible says?

More reasonable would be to just see that the Bible contradicts itself and thus obviously can not be in inerrant word of the Lord, and as such you can doubt it all.

> Originally Christianity was only offered as an option to Jews. It was the disciples who later decided to accept pagan converts, not Jesus. If you look at the number in Revelations, the 144,000 specifically refer to 12,000 each of the 12 tribes of Israel. I think the people who get this most wrong are messianic Jews who are neither Jews not Christians. However, that said, any I’ve met are truly lovely individuals and I suspect God will overlook their genuine confusion.

So you don’t think that part where Jesus says you have to believe in him to go to heaven, is really true?

Laws against divorces and pre-marital sex encourage those, they don’t fight them.

>
> Tell me how an entire society of greedy hedonists doesn’t make for a dangerous and negative society from deprioritized children expanding to effect incredible amounts of tax dollars, even if you set aside concern for warped people who will never be happy.

Even if that was an accurate description of secular society, it’s _still_ better than a grim, grey society of guilt-ridden, self-hating, life-hating puritanical Christians. Traditional Christian society is extremely oppressive, brutal and miserable.

> [@QueenOfClubs](#):
>
> You have school shootings, increased police, court and prison costs, increased national medical expenditures from everything like drunk driving car accidents caused by emotionally unhealthy people to widespread social diseases, decreased productivity in the workplace by alcoholics/drug addicts, and increased social costs for the poverty of single parent households, then look to two parent working families doubling the workforce and lowering wages artificially and all the damage that entails in literally hundreds if not thousands of ways.

Little of that has anything to do with divorce. The opposite is true in many cases; you are apparently actually trying to argue that someone trapped in life in a miserable marriage isn’t going to be “emotionally unhealthy”, which is ridiculous.

> [@QueenOfClubs](#):
>
> Ridiculous.

> We have the same laws now that correspond with the ten commandments because they are obvious. Don’t steal, don’t murder, don’t slander.

And “don’t steal, don’t murder, don’t slander” pre-date them. Christianity doesn’t get the credit for those rules. And commandments against other religions are not and should not be put into law.

Your own argument ("no _daughters")_ helps make the point that it’s about controlling women, not what’s harmful to society.

> [@QueenOfClubs](#):
>
> Let’s address the situation of domestic abuse which is very serious. In the 50s and up until then, basically divorce was so frowned on many people did NOT get divorced. I think there are pros and cons either way with a lot of hindsight. These women also didn’t suffer as single parents and particularly today be scapegoated, underpaid, guilt tripped for working, guilt tripped for not working or emotionally assaulted on a daily basis for years instead of being abused only in her home. It seems like kind of a toss up and I wouldn’t want to make the choice for another woman.

 A ridiculous argument. You are trying to equates beatings and rapes and murders with _having a job?_

> [@QueenOfClubs](#):
>
> Ideally the abusive spouse (male or female) would be admonished for being in a state of sin and would hopefully confess, seek counsel from the priest and cease to be abusive.

Of course in reality the priest would almost certainly be on the side of the abuser. In a good traditional Christian society she’s supposed to submit utterly to her [del]owner[/del]husband. She’s a slave, for all practical purpose.

Until you slide off at the end, your discussion points are more reasonable (those quoted) and don’t rely on various debating fallacies like straw men to approach.

I have other things to do but I will try to remember to come back and address some of the responses that are truly salient to a respectful and enlightening discussion tomorrow or so, assuming everyone still wants to chat about this.

A happy “meaningless” life is better than a miserable “meaningful” one. And I fail to see why a life with a meaning imposed _by someone else_ like the Christian god is desirable in _any_ way.

I’d argue with you more about the guns than your choice of spouses.

My point is why don’t you practice tolerating the majority population of Christians and keep being happy living your life however you would like to do so. Why do you feel the need to control other people’s choices, lives or religions?

You should remember that the whole point of gay activism was for toleration and civil rights. That street is two way and an increasing intolerant gay population pushing their minor children as pawns into attending Catholic schools just to create later lawsuits and other pushy publicity stunts aren’t going to help gay rights in the long run. It’s actually quite detrimental.

You aren’t going to take down the Church and continuously trying to do so might end up in an American version of what India just did if that lobby pisses off enough people and keeps striving for thought-crime penalties on the other 98%.

Look how the Duck Dynasty thing backfired. I think this country is at a political correctness turning point, personally.
