Thanks all for the replies and support, and I’m not really worried about the pilots union in this one, if it gets bad, the bankruptcy judge will dissolve their contract. Of course that could cause the pilots to have another “sick out” like they did a few years ago which could really hurt us.
We’re supposed to hear next week what our benefit and wage cuts will be. They are actually calling it “discussing wage adjustments”. Wow! It’s an adjustment! I wonder if it will be up or down!?
I work in a smaller station (PDX) so our big concern is that they’ll either pull out of Portland (very unlikely), or they’ll contract out the ramp and cargo departments. God help them if they contract us out, they’re going to have to find some other schmucks to train them. I did that years ago when they contracted out the a/c cleaning dept. I worked in. I’m not doing that again. (I mean this in the issue that if they contract my dept. out, I probably won’t have anywhere to go but to transfer cities, as opposed to last time when I was able to transfer to the ramp.)
Oh well…we’re all pretty much resigned to our fates now, we figure the only thing that could keep the company afloat long term at this point is if another legacy carrier goes under. It’s pretty painful to have to hope that some of your friends who work for other airlines have to lose their jobs in order for you to keep yours.
At least oil is dropping back under $65/barrel. That gives us some hope. Our recovery plan is based on oil at $65/barrel. That assumes that our executives have ANY frigging idea what they’re doing. Never mind, I shouldn’t think about that, getting scared again.
Take care folks, and remember to tip your cargo agent.
