It really was very peaceful, it was less than 30 minutes from when they started slowing the machines until his heart and breathing stopped. We all sat right there, mom holding one his hands, me the other one and the other kids sitting with us. There was no huge drama like convulsions or anything, it was just like he was sleeping. Under the circumstances, we couldn’t have asked for a gentler, easier finish. I will never know how the nurses on those wards do it, but I am so grateful for their care, gentleness and directness in speaking to us and helping clarify what the doctors were saying. ---

It does sound like he went very peacefully, Antinor. That will help in the coming months - or it did for me (my mom died in her sleep). To die surrounded by those that love us the most denotes a life well lived. **hugs** ---

I will raise a glass to his memory tonight. I have always thought the measure of a man was how his children turn out. Having met you IRL I feel safe in saying you dad was one of the good guys. If you want someone to take you out for a drink when you get back I’ll go. ---
