After a long marriage, a brief period of utter collapse, ten months of anxious waiting, and a whirlwind three days involving finding out my divorce filing had been rejected, and then fighting with the court to prove to them that _they_ had made the mistake, rather than me, I found out this morning that I’m officially single again. Who wants cake? ---

Congratulations. My friends threw me a Re-Bachelor party - limo up to Baltimore, Orioles game, copius beverages, a cultural trip to the ballet, then a club to round the evening off. ---

I am definitely feeling a variety of emotions today. Happy, relieved, a bit mournful, relieved, refreshed, relieved…a number of things. Did I mention relieved? Seriously, though. A number of people joked with me about having a divorce party. But honestly, I’m not feeling all that celebratory. Just…just that it’s time. Thanks to all of you for the congrats (yes, that’s appropriate) and well-wishes. I haven’t decided what sort of cake I’m serving, yet. It might just be whatever is on sale at the supermarket. 🙂 ---

Just…just that it’s time. It put things in perspective for me - that the divorce itself wasn’t a sad occasion. There were sad things, but they happened before. I made clear to my friends there was to be no trashing my ex allowed (she’s the mother of my son, and now, after 5 years, I’d consider her a friend too). It helped that none of them had ever met her (work friends, I had moved to a new city for this job). But there is nothign like Beer, Baseball and Boobs to lift your spirits, at least temporarily. ---

Trust me, a thick wad of singles and as many boobs as you can handle will be yours, if only temporarily. ---

I never know if it’s right to say “Congratulations” when someone announces a divorce, so I’ll say (Shodan beat me to it!) I hope you’ll be happier now that it’s final. Since you mention cake, I’m guessing you’re happy about it? Are you going to be re-entering the dating scene right now? Or have you already? ---

The legal bonds were the last remaining ties to the relationship, and those have finally been broken.
