But we laugh. 🙂 * * * On the more serious side again, I guess some of the reality of the situation hit home a bit yesterday afternoon at work. Being officially divorced meant I needed to make some changes to my emergency contact and beneficiary information with my employer. It was a little surreal to essentially be stating on paper that this person has no role in my life any longer. So many people that get divorced have kids to contend with and/or property that keeps them tied together. But in our case, we have only a couple of bank accounts to close, and we’re able to walk away from each other completely. We had an email exchange yesterday regarding some minutiae that ended with “take care.” And really, with that, we never need have anything to do with one another ever again in life. I think that’s where the sad part of this comes in. Leaving the relationship aside, there was a great friendship that lasted well over a decade that got crushed to the point where all we’re able to muster at the end is a “see ya!” Still, plenty of people end up in bad situations that they’re never able to extract themselves from. I’m grateful to not be one of those people. I get a second chance at life, and I’m already well down that path. Life 2.0 looks pretty good from where I’m sitting. ---

Welcome to the Next Chapter in your life! FWIW, my husband’s grandmother married at 18, divorced at 21ish and remained best friends with her ex for the rest of her life. When he died, she took care of his funeral arrangements, much to the annoyance of his wife. ---
