I knew it was coming. She’s about 14 years old and has been sick for the last 4 or 5 days: not eating or drinking. Goodbye Lily. You had a good life. We loved you pooch. I’m out in the country and will find a nice spot for her in the back yard. She would like that. Damn. She’s in my bedroom right now and I don’t have the guts to put her in a box or anything, but I must. This is tough. Holy shit. ---

I just clinically placed her in a box and taped it shut. I’m crying as I type this. She’s in the garage. Holy fuck. My 17 year old daughter is here with me. I knew this was coming, but she didn’t believe me. The dog has been all she’s known for her life. ---

I am very sorry for your loss. It is natural, expected, and just so goddamned hard when they go. Even when you expect it. I miss my old dog practically every day. I think a part of me always will, and I’m O.K. with that. Remembering the good times helps. ---

I’m so sorry. As others have said, their relatively short lives is the worst thing about dogs. You can only know them for a part of your life, but for them, you are their entire lives. We know this going into bringing a dog into out lives, loving them, and we do it anyways, because it is so worth it, for them and for us. ---

I’m a fairly stoic male, at least I thought I was. Even dumping out her food and water dishes now made me tear up. I’ll bury her tomorrow. Gah! I can’t believe my reaction to this. She’s been with us for almost 14 years and I don’t even recall NOT having her. My kids are 15 and 17 and Lily has been their pet since forever! Wow. Gulp.
