Best of luck to you!! That is so hard. My lab, Cheyenne, passed about a month ago. She seemed fine until the end. On a Sunday afternoon we noticed blood spots on our kitchen floor, then realized she was passing blood when she urinated. We planned on going to the vet in the morning, but she started having vision problems later in the evening, I let her outside to go again and when she came in she went to our bedroom to lie down, I checked on her after a short time and she was just sitting at the end of our bed and staring into the dark room. I lay on the floor with her for a while, she started having seizures that were extremely violent and they would not stop. It was a horrible night. We took her to the vet and admitted her, but she passed after 3 days. Best of luck to you and your family, it is really hard to go through. You have my thoughts and sympathy. ---

I have no idea how to explain it to a two-year-old. Wasn’t expecting this to happen for at least another few years, to the point where she’d be old enough to ask questions. Right now, she knows that Kiska is sick and that she needs to be gentle with him. He got home tonight and she kept giving him big hugs and asking “you okay?” Breaks your heart, it does. We’re looking at home euthanasia options, but I’m not sure if we’re going to do it this weekend or not. According to my husband, while it could be as soon as 10-14 days before he needs another fluid tap, it could be as long as two months. He seems to be moving around mostly okay, a little gingerly, but when I think that he just had a giant needle removing fluid from his pericardium, it doesn’t seem so terrible. So I think for the time being we’re just going to keep an eye on him and see how he’s doing and reevaluate on pretty much a daily basis. Of course, he could also have a sudden cardiac arrest too, so there’s that. I’ve been crying off and on for most of the day. Gotta go back to work tomorrow and I’m just not feeling it in the least. ---

I’m so sorry. My dog died of cancer in October. He was diagnosed with oral cancer (can’t remember the exact name right now) in July, and we had several good months together before it got bad enough that every day I was wondering if this was the day. I loved him dearly and tried to give him the best last months I could, and I think I did. I got a new dog last week. I’d upload a picture but I’m not sure where to put it without a link to my Facebook page, which would blow my cover here. (heh) Anyway, my point is to give your guy the best life you can while you can, and that’s all you can do. When it’s time for him to go, you will also be doing what’s best for him. Again, I’m so sorry. ---

My young neice’s cat died recently. I guess the book Cat Heaven helped her a lot.
