My dad died in April, and I don’t miss him at all, because he was a lousy father. I read threads like this from people who loved their dad so much, and are in so much pain from missing him, and I don’t even need to wonder which is better, bad dad and little grief or great dad and lots of grief. I don’t want to make light of your grief or anything like that; just to remind you how great it is that you had someone worth grieving over. ---

I’m so sorry, **Cartooniverse**. My father died this past July; he was 51. Losing a parent at any age is rough, particularly when you have such an awesome relationship. Speaking from personal experience – lots of people around you are going to step up now, thinking that they know what’s “best” for you and your family. It’s perfectly alright to ignore them. (And if you’re given food that looks mysterious, it’s OK to throw it out or pass it on to someone else.) ---

All sympathy, Cartooniverse; sounds like your dad was a great man, and had the relative blessing of not suffering. From what I know of you here, especially your beautiful Sept. 11 post, one of his good gifts to the world was a strong, capable, and caring son. May your heart stay strong through mourning, may the love between the two of you bless the rest of your life.
