# My father-in-law died

My father-in-law died this morning. He had been diagnosed with lymphoma in October and just two months later he is dead. My wife was with him in the hospital when he died.
A remarkable man, he immigrated from China with nothing, eventually owned a small chain of restaurants and put five children through college.

I lost my father in law March of this year. He was like a surrogate father to me after moving out here. People don’t need to be family to be family. My thoughts are with you and yours.

I’m sorry for your loss.
My father in law died this year as well. It’s been a few months but sometimes I wonder what’s crawled up my husband’s butt and then I realize he’s dealing with the first Thanksgiving without his dad, or he worked in the garage and can’t call his dad to ask a question.
Although the event was sad to me I know I will never feel it the way he did, and it sneaks into life in ways I never realized it could.

First of all, my heartfelt condolences for this painful loss. A father in law IS family.
As time goes on, perhaps the rapid decline and loss will be seen as a blessing FOR your F.I.L.
I’m not a big believer in prolonging a painful death to spare the survivors the sadness of the loss. May he be in a peaceful and pain free place !
