Marvel Heroes Omega. If you’re not familiar, it was a Diablo style ARPG, but in the Marvel Universe. In fact, one of the creators of Diablo, David Brevik, was in charge for a while. I know it had its technical and balancing issues, but I loved it. Being point and click, and able to play one of a couple of dozen different heroes was awesome. I also played with a great group of people. I played it from beta in 2012 through shutdown in 2017. Unfortunately, after Brevik left the game, the new studio head mismanaged his employees and the financials, and Disney finally pulled the plug.
For the last couple of years, some game developers, somewhere, were able to get their hands on the game files, and began reverse engineering it. The game is 60% - 70% done, and playable. I know Crafting has not been implemented yet, and neither has the social aspects. There’s no teaming up or group play… yet.
A great group of people have created Project T.A.H.I.T.I. which is a public server hosting the game. If you still have Marvel Heroes in your Steam library, you can download it, then sign up and get connection info here - https://mhtahiti.com/ Here’s a video with more info, and how to get the game going if you’ve never played before - https://youtu.be/OWqc3jJK5kA?si=vrdo6ydN2CW7IuYA
Oh hey, thanks for the heads-up! I was just thinking about this game the other day, after having played too much PoE2, Last Epoch, and Diablo IV. I loved Marvel Heroes, and was so sad it shut down!
Glad to see it make a sort-of comeback. To be clear, this is a third party server emulator, like they used to have for EQ and WOW, not an official relaunch/acquisition, right?
I wonder how long they have before they get a cease & desist from Disney…
I’m worried about Disney shutting it down too. This is from the Project T.A.H.I.T.I. F.A.Q., which, I know, really doesn’t mean much.
"Won’t Disney take this offline?
Probably not. Other dead games based on Disney IP have been resurrected without issue. For example, Star Wars Galaxies has thousands of players across it’s public servers and has been around over a decade. Marvel Super Hero Squad, a Marvel game developed by Gazillion prior to their work on Marvel Heroes, has been resurrected and hasn’t faced any problems with Disney.
Marvel Heroes, while we love it, has a small fan base. Certainly much smaller than Star Wars Galaxies. We should be fine.
Do you know how Tahiti is different from the Council of Ancients community server? Are these just two different communities? https://mho.councilofancients.com/
I played that game like crazy. Heck, back on the Gazillion boards I was one of the more prominent Captain America posters, doing theorycrafting and giving advice to players. (I posted under the username “Atama”.)
When the game servers shut down, I was crushed. It was a spectacular game that kept adding features and heroes.
Sigh… Unfortunately, it doesn’t work, and I spent hours troubleshooting.
You can’t get any assistance from either team because officially, you are supposed to only be running the game through Steam (and I never played through Steam, I only ever played through the standalone launcher). So they can’t provide assistance.
