Back from Target, new toaster in hand. Raining (spitting sleet, really) here. Grumpy and out of sorts today. Anybody have any suggestions to improve my mental outlook? ---

Poot - my witty, clever post disappeared before the preview window came up. Double poot. So, short and sweet: 1. Our boat is wintering in the water. Next season will possibly be our last year with this boat. We’re thinking about downsizing. Who knows… 2. I didn’t do much of anything this weekend - I was a bum. But I did make a good pot o’ soup - it’s yummerrific! 3. It’s gray and cold and windy and gonna rain - we turned the furnace on to see if it worked and we kept it going to burn off the first-heating-day-of-the-year stink. 4. **swampy** - a costume suggestion - get nekkid and put on a pair of roller skates - you’ll be a pull toy! 😃 And that’s all I’m gonna say about that. ---

But I got to catch up on some sleep, which was nice after not going to bed until four AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Crazy love triangles are confusing. Being stalked by people is too. But I won’t go into that unless someone really wants to know details about my social life. ---

NOOOOOOOOO! I meant to add to that last post that you all should look at my post count! In 2 years, I’ve managed to rack up a humongous three thousand (and 1, now) posts. But now that it’s not an even three thousand (because of this damn post), it’s not as dramatic. ---

Well, I was a culture snob late last week and this weekend. I went to San Francisco for a conference and acted like a tourist (a very cultured tourist though, no Alcatraz or Fishermen’s Wharf for me). No, I had two very excellent dinners at high end resturants (chicken picatta to die for, and the deserts–to be resurrected for), went to the symphony (and drank champagne) and spent Saturday at the deYoung and the Japanese Tea Gardens. And then on Sunday I watched football while in my pajamas, my hair uncombed and my teeth not brushed, drinking beer and eating bite-sized Tostidos. I even scratched in places you’re not supposed to scratch if you are properly mannered. I is high-class all the way. For those of you who remeber Molly, my Mom’s wonderful little dog, she died last Monday of the kidney condition. The vet didn’t think she would live more than a year or two but she made it to 5. Molly has a very special place in our family’s hearts, and our gratitude for the love and companionship she gave Mom. As you may also remember, Mom was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and went through two surgeries. She was recovering well but then had some serious lung problems last February. Thankfully, she has since regained her health and her enjoyment of life. Molly almost died last October after Mom’s first surgery, but much to the vet’s surprise, she held on for a year (he wouldn’t commit to her living even a month longer). My sisters and I believe that if Molly had died before Mom had recovered this much, Mom would have died. Mom has lots af reasons to stay alive (including new great-grandkids) but Molly gave Mom something very tangible to hold on to–unconditional love and unreasoned hope. To the end Molly was a joyous spirit. She was never in pain, and although she was at the vet’s when she died, she and Mom had said goodbye. We will always hold Molly in our hearts, and are better for knowing her. For a final miracle, Molly’s life with Mom left open a place for Mom to love another dog. She was lonely without another soul in the house, and my sisters and I all wanted another canine sister to tease Mom about. Happily, we located a two-year old rescued Lhaso Apso (just neglected, not abused) near where Mom lives and she a Jeannemarie went up to meet her yesterday. They came home with Angel, a little white and tan dog with a sweet disposition. I’m sure Mom is spoiling her already and I can’t wait to mme her myself. If you will, please take a moment to acknowledge all the joy that pets of all sorts bring to their companions, and if you have a pet/companion, give her/him an extra hug. ---

As y’all may remember, we had Sadie the VunderDog put down on Valentine’s Day, after a long life and suffering from cancer and doggie MS. We don’t have the room for another Boxer, per terms of our lease, but we can have a smaller dog. We’ve found, and go on Veteran’s Day, to the wilds of West Virginny to pick up a French Bulldog. Currently, her working name is Brie, like the smelly French cheese, because the bulldog is French, and, well, her back end has a tendency to smell. I was going to wait until we had her in hand, and then challenge **Rue** to a puppy picture duel (mine is uglier than your’s!), but my hand was forced. I can hardly wait for the happy sounds of butt-sniffing… ---

Then **CNYN** called **cb** to see what he was doing. Asked if the two had slept together the previous night (They of course, had not.) Called again about 30 minutes later to see what was happening. Came over unannounced to tell us that he disapproved, and to check on us to make sure there was no wild sex on the couch. Thus ends the story (after **cb** and **AGNM** make out on the couch after everyone leaves.) ---

Was kinda creepy seeing enormous images of laparoscopic staplers on the sides of the hotel shuttle buses lined up near my office, and thinking “Gahhh…I know what those are used for! Errghhh!” ---
