A handicap is a barrier. Dyslexia is a learning disability. To a person who is in a wheelchair, a ‘handicap’ is a curb, or a flight of stairs. To a person in English class, dyslexia is a handicap. Dyslexia itself is not the handicap, it is a disability. A ‘mental impairment’ can be a handicap, and it is a disability. I may be wrong, but to me it came across as if ‘handicapped’ people aren’t smart (“I’ve known several dyslexics & they are some of the smartest people I have known”). I work with a boy who has cerebral palsy. He will spend his life in a wheelchair. He has difficulty speaking. He is enrolled in a regular public school, and he is a straight-A student. Because he cannot speak well, others write him off as ‘stupid’, ‘retarded’, and ‘a handicap’. He is smart. He wants to be a medical researcher, and he’s certainly capable of it, provided he is given the chance. ‘Handicapped’ does **not** equal stupid. Disabilities do not equal stupid. Mea culpa, Zulu, you are correct. I was trying to encourage him to seek help & to state that a person isn’t stupid just because that person can’t spell very well. * * * Mastery is not perfection but a journey, and the true master must be willing to try and fail and try again ---

chef troy, I’m with you, it is more than the spelling, or the subject, there is an innate immaturity that leads me to believe he is a child. zulu, I am really trying to be P.C. about the whole thing, but the kid is stupid, if he is dyslexic, or not, left handed or right, white , black, or blue, mentally or physically impaired, or not …the boy is a retard!!! A moron!!! an idiot savant, without the savant!!! I am so sick of trying not to be offensive…screw it…he is a 'tard.!!! lables be damned…he fits, and as far as the whole trailer with the dirty kids thing…boy, is that ever on target…(shudder)… ---

Ok. I’m late finding this thread so I think I’ve missed the party, but accepting as fact that this kid is really only about 13, shouldn’t we encourage him to wait for sex? At least until he can spell the anatomical part he is so desperately looking for. If this kid actually finds another kid dumbbbbbbbbb enought to have sex with at his age it may result in, gasp, another little loverock. I’m off to the feeling old thread. Damn, this kid just depressed the hell out of me. ---

Guy’s look I have dyslexia, so I have a hard time spelling (right like you have never noticed on any of my postes. 🙂 ) Before I post any thing I read it about a 1/2 dozen times and run it through spell check twice! Yeah there are still mistakes but my postes DO NOT (man I wish I could figure out that bold command) look like that! If loverock is dyslexic this has got to be really embarrassing for him. If he DOESN’T (damn, bold that) and he is just screwing around then I’m embarrassed. (after note just this took me 20 min.) * * * no matter where you go…there you are ---
