I am sorry for your loss. With the suddenness of his death my best guess would be a thromboembolism, probably to the brain. The thing with feline cardiomyopathy is that they may never show any signs until they throw a clot. Depending on where the clot goes and the size of the clot, it can be very quick. ---

I am so very sorry. Max was a beautiful boy and he was loved so much-that is obvious from your words. There is nothing anyone can say to ease the pain; just know you are not alone. Many of us here have known the same heartache. (((hugs))) ---

I’m so sorry, sweetheart. The thing is, kidney disease does not kill quickly. Whatever took Max out, it was quick - so quick he didn’t even meep. Hard as it was on you, it was easy for him. It’s been almost two years since I had to put [Raven](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=558699) down, and I still miss my little bitch kitty. I know how it is. May your happy memories sustain you. May you find support and comfort in your husband’s arms. May another kitty out there find a home as good as Max did. ---

As we thought more about it, we had both noticed his right eye was droopy yesterday. I thought he’d gotten something in it, but now I think you may be right. I’m getting ready to go to bed, and I don’t know if I can do it.Even with my husband there, the bed seems too big. How many times did I get annoyed with him for taking up too much room. ☹ ---

My first night without Max was a long one. I didn’t sleep much. At around 3:00AM my husband’s cat, Cassy came to my side of the bed to sleep with me. That helped some. Max came into the house as a Christmas gift to my husband. Cat’s do the adopting. I belonged to him. Hubby belongs to Cassy He thought he was a dog. He learned to sit up, shake hands and fetch. He followed me everywhere. He wasn’t a lap cat. He preferred the arm or back of my chair, or across my legs, if I had them up. I know I’m describing every cat in the world, but he was special to me.
