Geez, **Quasi** , be VERY careful about this. I don’t know the nature of your injury, but I had an inflamed tendon in my right foot/ankle, and it literally took a YEAR to fully heal - AND I was warned it would always be more vulnerable than it had been before. If your injury is a soft tissue injury, you REALLY don’t want to rush things. Talk to a doc or podiatrist before you decide to run!

25ing the “friend” thing, and the “take care of your ankle” thing. Being able to run in that race wasn’t the Real Goal. It was a “marker point”, but the Real Goal is being in better health: don’t let a competition over cojones size ruin that!

One of the biggest races in the world, attendancy-wise is the Cursa Corte Inglés in Barcelona. 10km. The “athletes” go first, then the regular people.

My Barcelona cousins have always been the athletic ones in our family. At the time when I went to college to Barcelona, she (my age) was a Waterpolo player. Every week she spent about 30 hours doing some sport or other. He (3 years younger) was a rower.

For the last two months before the Cursa, they trained running every day. I didn’t. The closest thing I did to “training” was go to college walking, but I did that because I enjoy walking, not as exercise. And I don’t run. Running is against my religion (I don’t breathe right). Their goal was to do it in under 1h; mine, to finish.

OK. Cursa day arrives, they run, I walk.

I do it in 55’57"

THEY, the athletes, the runners, the ones who had been training and mocking me for my allergy to “sports” - both went over 1h!

My mouth still tries to grin whenever I remember it. It was one of those MWAHAHA moments…

> You’re the only one in a position to judge whether his friendship is worth it or not. You sound just as competitive as he is – and that’s fine! You’ve been doing just great! Injuries happen when you are athletic. I would not risk permanent injury just to prove a point to anyone. If you want to be a winner, do it on a personal basis. Constantly strive for personal best. No one can defeat you except yourself.

I notice that male competitiveness is a lot different than female for the most part. I don’t know why that is, but he may think he’s helping you “will yourself” into a state of wellness or something. Guys can be kinda funny that way.

I’d let this one roll off. Take the high road and say, “Wait until I’m healed up…blah, blah, blah”. If he continues to try to steal your thunder, maybe you need to find someone else to hang with.

Go to the race. Right up to the starting line. Right before the start, use your good foot to kick him in the balls. That should even the field for a little ways.

Hmmm, you and your friend trash talk each other, and now all of a sudden you’re claiming that his trash talking hurts your feelings?

My advice is to suck it up and take your lumps. If you try to get all touchy feely, the best case scenario is that you will ruin trash talking between you. Worst case is that he’ll forever poke you after every taunt with “that didn’t hurt your _feewings_, did it?”

Your OP sure sounds like you give as good as you get. If I were you, I’d join in him trash talking you. “I’d crush you if the crepitus hadn’t set in.” “Just call me the gimp.” etc…

Is he really in shape enough to run 13 miles? Doesn’t he know that a marathon is just about finishing? (except for about 4 people, for them it’s a race)
I wonder if you friend isn’t setting himself up for a tortise and the hare lesson.

Well the way I talk on a board here to rant and the way I talk to him in person are two completely different things. I always try to be reasonable with people when dealing with them, though that doesn’t mean I don’t rip off a pile of profanity in my mind when I angry though. I’m respectful of him in person, and in all honesty, I’ve helped him achieve many things professionally and personally that he would of had difficulty with If I wasn’t there. So I’m fed up with the bullshit.
