I got the call from my folks who were with her, the other night. Sigh. She was my last grandparent. I lost my other grandma last November. I miss her already. Dammit, this sucks. She lived overseas, and she decided she wanted to be buried here. Apparently the U.S. Government says that she’s gotta be shipped over in a zinc coffin. Why Zinc? I hate funerals too. I’ve got many better ways to honor her and remember her than seeing her put in the ground. But I _have_ to be there for my dad’s sake. Shit. I’m having trouble believing that I’ll never see her again. F\*ck. This OP is stream-of-semi-conciousness gibberish, sorry. Fenris ---

It’s a bad week for nice little old ladies. We attended a wake last night for our elderly neighbor (she lost her husband this spring and just went downhill from there), and today my mother is going to her aunt’s funeral. Condolences. ---

Sorry to hear that, Ferris. Damn close to being in the exact same position myself – last Grandparent, in hospital, nothing to be done, family being summoned. Not at all good. Crazy thing is the old girls tend to hang in there forever, got to admire their spirit. Wish you well and I hope you have great memories. Funny thing life, isn’t it ? ---

I’m so sorry **Fenris**. I never had grandparents, they all passed away before I was born. So, count yourself lucky that you got to have a grandmother, and remember all the good times you can. Be there for your dad, but if possible, excuse yourself to the back of the group when they go to lower the coffin. It may help if you tell your dad beforehand that you can’t bear to remember her that way, and tell him you will be right in the back. He will probably understand. Besides, who is going to say “where are you going?” No one. We all deal with it in our own ways. Take care. You have my deepest sympathy. ---

My condolences, Fenris, really. Just remember that she’ll be with you forever, and rejoice in her staying as long as she did… Is it just me, or has it been a rough year for grandmothers on this board? You, robgruver, chique, Jeannie…I’ve lost two since November (still have one, thank god - my dad was widowed and remarried, so I got an extra set)… I suppose it’s just inevitable math, but my how tough. May her memory be a blessing. ---
