I can see some legitimate commercial uses for this thing, but let’s not kid ourselves. Plenty of people with the bucks are going to make their bid for “king of the dirt pile,” something that usually only elementary school kids strive for. I wouldn’t be too suprised to see the Governator tooling around in one of these Tonka trucks soon.

I really don’t think you’ll see that at all. With only 220HP, and 540 ft. lbs of torque, the thing couldn’t get out of its own way on the freeway. We all know soccer moms like to go fast, and this won’t be fast at all I don’t think, it’s a monster.

I could be wrong though, stranger things have definitely happened!

Man, the overcompensating boyfriend of an acquaintance of mine just took delivery of a Hummer H2. In bright yellow. I bet he’s gonna be kicking himself now.

Seriously, though, what the GVW of this thing? Look’s to me like it’ll require a trucker’s licence to drive it legally.

You aren’t going to see many of these vehicles. You see, it would be illegal for most people to drive one. At 6 tons, it’s a commercial vehicle; you would need a class A license to legally drive it on a public road in almost any state or province. The limit for G-class licenses (the type of license you probably have) in most jurisdictions is about five tons.

According to the [International 7300 CXT brochure (pdf file)](http://www.internationaldelivers.com/assets/pdf/7300%20CXT%20SS.pdf), the GVW is 25,999 pounds - just 2 pounds under the California limit. So someone with a basic Class C license could drive one of these things just for kicks after all. If they happen to have 10[sup]7[/sup] cents lodged in the couch cushions, anyway.

Obviously the cost is a limiting factor, but I really don’t want to see a bunch of these things driven by idiots. At least they’ll be ponderous and easy to dodge.

This belongs on the list of Signs Your Vehicle Might Be Too Goddamn Big.

Obviously, that two pound difference wasn’t an accident. But, look at that brochure, and you’ll find out what got left off to save the weight. Tows up to 12,000 pounds? Yeah, if you add on the optional hitch.

Over here in Australia we have been experiencing quite a rise in the numbers of large 4WDs (or SUVs as you guys call them) on our roads.

I hate them with a passion, but by “them”, I’m referring to the pristine ones that never or hardly ever see anything other than bitumen.

For those that are interested, I am currently reading a book called “High & Mighty - The Dangerous Rise of the SUV”, whose author is Keith Bradsher. What I have read so far is very well informed and backed up by facts and cites, not to mention infuriating for those who feel the same way that I do.

Steelers WR Plaxico Burress showed up to training camp in July [driving a Ford F650](http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04209/352449.stm)
Googling gives me specs from the F650:

> [@](#):
>
> • Work Ready models include:
> – F-650
> – Pre-configured Power Stroke® engine offerings
> – Allison 2000 5-speed automatic transmission or Eaton FS-5406A 6-speed manual
> – 26,000 lbs. GVWR
>
> • The 6.0L Power Stroke® is available in four engine ratings:
> – 200 horsepower, 520 lb.-ft. torque
> – 215 horsepower, 540 lb.-ft. torque
> – 230 horsepower, 540 lb.-ft. torque
> – 230 horsepower, 620 lb.-ft. torque

Sounds pretty darn close to the same thing as this CXT.

California, I hasten to add, is one of the few jurisdictions with a high weight definition for commercial vehicle. Alberta is another.

However, California specifically exempts pickup trucks from commercial vehicle weight restrictions under the Commercial Vehicle Registration Act (2001) anyway.

At half the price. A standard F-650 is around $45,000. It also comes as a cab and chasis rig so that you can put whatever bed is most practical for your industry on it. Basically, it’s a work truck - the International looks like a toy.

I used to drive a truck about that size for a landscaper. I can’t imagine anybody wanting to navigate that beast to work every day.

Unless I missed the link, here’s the [official web site](http://www.internationaldelivers.com/site_layout/severe/cxt.asp).

It does look kind of cool, but considering how, after the Hummer came out, we saw them taking up two handicap parking spots all around town, I can’t imagine what will happen if this thing, er, gets big.

And I thought that the Escalade EXT was the supreme statement in malicious conspicuous consumption.
