**Broomstick** tells me she’s gone for some rest, on the orders of her husband’s treatment team. They are aggressively providing palliation for his symptoms and making him comfortable as the situation progresses.

Sharing a bit more at **Broomstick** ’s bidding, her husband has complications including bilateral pneumonia and urinary tract infection, and has become non-verbal while displaying other signs consistent with significant brain dysfunction and possible systemic blood clots. Treatment is aimed solely at reducing suffering, as other measures would be futile. ☹

I always felt a kinship with Broomstick, as we joined around the same time and both were dealing with husbands who had significant medical issues (and all that entailed personally, professionally/publicly, and financially). It breaks my heart to see this unfolding. I wish there were something that someone could do to make this easier for both of you.

Damn. This sounds like what happened with my mother as she slipped away. The hospital did a good job of making her comfortable, I can only hope that Mr. Broomstick’s passing is as peaceful.
This is not the update any of us wanted to hear :(.

**Broomstick** ’s husband did wake up yesterday, and was aware and talking and not in pain. His problems remain grave, but I am so grateful they have been able to share more quality time together.

My sister was able to come out from Buffalo for a few days which took some burden off me and let me get some rest. I still feel wrung-out and exhausted, but not _completely_ exhausted.
Right now, due to some insurance issues, he’s not _officially_ in hospice (don’t get me started on that… it’s been good up until end-of-life care. Maybe I’ll discuss that later.) but the hospital is treating him as if he is. He’s getting everything he needs to stay comfortable and not getting anything that does not lead to that goal. He’s safe and as comfortable as we can make him. He’s less and less verbal and sleeping more and more.
I’ve made all the arrangements I needed/could. Now we are waiting.
