That’s such great news!
I remember when my Mom had her double mastectomy…we spoke to the doctor after the lab reports were in and he used the words “clean margin.” I wanted to cry the same way.

Guys, thank y’all so much for always checking up on Jaceson. It really does our hearts good when the outlook seems so bleak. So thank you again.
As to news, I’m afraid the bad stuff just keeps coming. We saw his oncologist this morning, and after a routine lab, his blood levels have gone down and this is in light of having a transfusion only last week.
The doctor explained that it’s likely he’s developed allo antibodies. Which basically means he’s begun rejecting foreign blood in his system. Unfortunately, I didn’t think at the time to ask if this translated to other issues as well (like his liver). I’ll have to follow up on that.
Anyway, upon the doctor’s further reflection of the bone marrow biopsy report, the last thing he was diagnosed with, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), has apparently gotten a bit worse. I looked back over the thread and I’m not even sure I told you all about that, although QtM helped me with some questions.
So, what the doctor said is that if we treat the MDS (which is described in Wikipedia as Pre-Leukemia and seems a basic catch-all for blood issues [please, someone correct me if I’m wrong – I’ve got so much information floating around my brain that I’m bound to mess some of it up] where there’s ineffective production (dysplasia) of the myeloid class of blood cells. Ugh, I hope that’s not a too redundant explanation), it could theoretically help to manage his anemia and cut down on the blood loss.
But the way to do that is only through a medication called Revlimid. The drawbacks to that, of course, is more possible liver damage, kidney problems or blood clotting. Therefore, we’re not sure if he’ll be taking it or not. ☹ However, if he can’t have successful transfusions either, I’m not sure what choice we have.
The doctor did say he wouldn’t be on but a very small restricted dose and we agreed to get second opinions next week. Just things don’t look good, especially since they’re now saying that multiple things like this could possibly preclude him from going on the transplant list. Another issue is his weight has gone back up significantly since he’s been taking the steroids for the Vasculitis and he’s been unable to get it back down,making his BMI an issue too.
Regardless, he’ll be going through the five day evaluation for that soon. Then we’ll know if he’s a good candidate or not. Also, since his back pain has been off the charts, he’s also going in for an injection to tell whether or not the hardware they installed is the problem. If so, they can remove it safely and that’ll be one good thing to come out of all this if he no longer hurts and can stand.
That’s where things are now. I’m sorry to have dumped so much on everyone right now, but in addition to my caregiver’s support group meeting I have once a month, you guys are my backbone. I truly could not do this if you all weren’t here for us.
I owe y’all an eternal debt of gratitude and I’ll never forget the kindness shown us. You all are wonderful. Now I’m going to scat before I start to cry again.

My word, **faithfool** , you’ve been given a heavy load for sure. I wish there was something I could do to make it all go away but my magic wand is in the shop. You and Jaceson are strong people even though I’m sure you don’t feel that way some days. You’re more than welcome to cry on our shoulders any time you want.
