OK, and? if his electrolytes are that low because he’s starving himself, he’s not going to be alive much longer to be excited about anything.
Not to worry. He’s not concerned about his weight, nor is he in danger of starving. They don’t do weights (make weight? I don’t know how to term it, but you know what I mean…) at his TKD school, unless maybe when they go to competitions (he doesn’t compete). He’s just a slender teenager who doesn’t get enough water sometimes, and isn’t a huge eater and not at all a snacker. So he is under orders (and is taking much better care) to make sure that he gets enough fluids and is eating regular meals and the occasional snack. I was the same way in high school but never got quite as far as passing out…just lots of dizziness/faintness/etc. He also has fairly low blood pressure, as I have all my life.
At any rate, I’m glad the tests were negative and we know what (probably) caused the problem. If he has another episode, they will do a scan and whatever other tests seem appropriate.
Quick note on hydration - back when I coached high school volleyball, I suggested to my team that they should take a drink of water every time they passed a water fountain. You want to hydrate before you’re thirsty.
I have absolutely no science to back this up…but it’s what they taught me in a coaching clinic. It seemed harmless enough, and probably good advice.
That’s a good idea, I will pass it on. What I’m teaching him right now is, take a drink (water! a drink of WATER!) every time you go near your mother.
