We’ve had her for 16 years, she’s been with us through college, fives moves, our wedding, countless milestones. She’s a tiny long-haired black cat with big yellow eyes. She was a stray who adopted us and kept us company every single day. Though tiny, she always ruled the roost. The other cats had to fall into line and behave tehmselves around her or risk a hiss and a swat. She started slowing down a few years ago, preferring to spend most of her time on the bed or in front of the fireplace. She was diagnosed with kidney disease three years ago. Our vet showed us how to do subcutaneous fluids and gave us different food that would help. She had a few good years, but now her kidneys have shut down. She’s too weak to stand and has stopped eating or drinking. Tomorrow we’re going to call our vet to see if she can make a house call. It’s time to let our old girl go. We’ll miss our little matriarch with her giant purr and creaky meow. But it’s time for her to rest, and she deserves to go. ---

i’m sorry. it is so tough. a house call is a good thing. much less stress for everyone. nod the naughty had a house call yest. so much easier on her, me, and the vet and tech. your girl will have a lot of sdmb company on the other side. ---

Moonstarsun, I’m so sorry. Saying goodbye is so very difficult. I just lost my dog Angel three days ago to kidney disease, though her downward spiral was much faster. I’d read that cats tolerate kidney disease far better than dogs if given proper care, and you have proven that. What is her name? ---

Her name is Nubia, aka Nubes. And she’s actually still with us right now. We called our vet this morning and he said that it could be the sinus infection she’s fighting right now that’s making her so weak. He suggested giving her a couple more days for the new antibiotic to kick in, keep giving her fluids and giving her liquid food thru a syringe to see if that builds her strength back up. If this stuff doesn’t work, we’ll go ahead with the house call on Monday. As long as she’s not suffering, I’m happy to give her a couple more days. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. ---

I’m so very sorry. We have a cat right now who has nasal cancer. The worst part I think, is knowing that they’re suffering, but you’re still not ready to let go. _hugs_ ---

hopefully the antibio. will kick in. her not wanting to eat could be because of her not being able to smell. spoil her silly this weekend. ---
