It’s quite resonant, actually. Moreso than I thought it would be. Nice sustain. This particular piece of korina is pretty heavy. The guitar weighs 10 lbs on the nose which is a little heavy for a strat.
The sound is not as brittle as Ash/Alder, more mid-rangey, but not as much as mahogany. Pretty much right in the middle of the two… at least to my ears. The neck wood also plays a part in the tone, too. Ebony fretboards are notoriously bright, which I think may have brightened this guitar up a bit and kept it from being too muddy…
Oh just a little. One one shoulder I have a **WordMan **sitting there saying “C’mon man, it’s just a new guitar. You know you want it, you’ll be the envy of everyone you know with a custom axe like that.”
On the other shoulder is my girlfriend threatening to wash my concert t-shirt collection with bleach and make me watch Brett Michaels Rock of Love Bus until my eyes bleed.

Very nice! I had to wait until I got home and work wasn’t blocking the pics on the linked pages, but I have to say…color me very impressed! I just acquired an older Jaguar via some craigslist luck and a nice new Gretsch for Xmas, so the guitar lust has returned in a big way. I also would be interested in a guitar as sexy as your creation!

When you mentioned a remaining slab of wood, my first thought was a bolt neck, single P-90 equipped LP Jr. type thing. Or if you’re going to try a neck next, what the heck, try a set neck as well.
Most necks, even bolt on necks used in Fender-type guitars, have a truss rod in them, yes. Because bolt-on guitars are designed to be, well, bolted on, the truss rod is fully self-contained in the detachable neck. And since we Parts-o-Caster builders are buying pre-made necks from aftermarket sellers like Warmoth, Allparts, USACG and many others, we are all set…
