I’ve sort of been where you are. I was in deep love with a close friend for many years. She liked me, too, but apparently not enough to commit to anything more than friendship. Unrequited love is a horrible thing. Sometimes time cures it and sometimes it doesn’t.

If you ask me, your choices are pretty clear:

- Continue with the status quo, which seems pretty ugly.
- End the relationship. Either cut things off without saying anything, or tell her how you feel in order to get some closure.
- Tell her how you feel and try to put your feelings behind you so you can remain (better) friends.

I think the last option, while the most tempting for a guy like me, is the absolute worst. That’s the one I tried. I highly recommend the second one. It sucks, but I really think it’s the most emotionally and mentally healthy thing you can do.

Anyway, good luck and welcome to the boards!
